Slickdeals is not AVSforum. Regardless of what you think of this AVR or your own personal needs, this is a misleading and unhelpful post. The amp is more than capable of handling >95% rooms/setups out there (medium to large rooms included). I have a dedicated HT (front PJ / 9.2 setup) and it has no issues pushing reference volume. If you're trying to power an incredibly large (and open) room or incredibly inefficient speakers, you might need better power, but you'll be spending quite a bit more to get it. This is one of the highest VALUE (price to performance) AVRs on the market; I paid $999 for it a year ago and have not been disappointed. No product is perfect; I'd like to have better binding posts for this price point and a much better user interface, but we all live with compromises. Please keep in mind that not everyone has $20k+ for their systems and at least qualify your statement before offering your opinion next time.
I think he might mean that the $1299 retail price is BS since Onkyo sells it themselves for $899 so the actual savings is less than what the post indicates.
Sounds like someone bought it for 899

No pre-amp outs so only good for a bedroom or other small room.

Zone 2 pre-amp right next to the subwoofer pre-amp. Both can output full spectrum pre-amp output

Does the sub out work with the zone 2 pre out?

Plus it has Dirac live. I love mine. The interface doesn't bother me. After calibrating with Dirac through my PC, I just make adjustments through the Onkyo controller app.

If you are after Dirac Live RC, this is the least expensive way to get it.
If you don't need/want preouts and ok with mono subs this is a good price.

Great price on a great piece of equipment. I've been using one of these for over a year. My only quibble is that the front display doesn't go dark like the Denon receivers. So I put a strip of blackout tape across the display. Other than that, zero complaints. Movies sound freaking amazing in Dolby Atmos.

I have the ONKYO TX-SR393 and it has this really cool feature that you can't disable. If there's any pause between skipping tracks while playing music it makes a loud click and turns itself off just to turn itself back on 3 seconds later when the next song starts.

This is partly a warning to anybody that wants to buy Onkyo, but also a plea for help if anyone knows how to fix it
