*Edit: Found out heatsink is recommended for those wondering as well.

Samsung drive sucks now. Wouldn't touch it even if they gave it away free. It work with initial install then it just crawls when doing updates after a while. Tested in two computers and same thing happens. Samsung is good for benchmark but that's about it.
This drive will give you consistent speed no matter the task. It may seem to be a little slower, but at least it's consistent and doesn't crap out over time.
To be fair, I like the old Samsung drives, but the new line up is benchmark kings and just sales and marketing. Not good really for anything else considering the price.

its also on sale, and i am also looking to put it in a laptop. i honestly didnt know there were "generations" of these things. i just know i need a "m.2 pcie nvme ssd"... and that the 2280 will fit length wise.
i don't need lightning fast speeds, only upgrading because i cant work with the 256gb card my laptop came with.

I agree the P5 isn't the best for power consumption and laptop use. However, there are plenty of other drives that have low power dissipation for laptops: WD SN770, Teamgroup mp44l, to name a couple (both gen4). With gen4 being so close in price, I don't find it worth it to get gen3 unless you never plan to use the drive in a future device, enclosure, etc.
Been looking at this since it's sold out on Amazon. Had it in my cart and dissapeared. But available thru crucial.
$5 shipping for me to Los Angeles. Even though Newegg is in that area. So the shipping on this deal is not free.

Is the cloning software come free with this ? Thanks
I don't know if it still comes with it, but Macrium Reflect is free and is generally considered better than any of the SSD manufacturer's software.
Edit: apparently they're retiring the free version of Macrium Reflect on 1/1/24, but it's still available until then.
