The overheating was probably a defect for that unit. I've had a NR-7100 since December 2021 with no heating issues. About a year ago we did some remodeling and I put the equipment in a server rack in a closet. I didn't want the heat going up and heating the shelf above the receiver so I put an AC Infinity on top to vent the heat to the front.
I currently have a Denon X3400H and the only thing I'm really missing is VRR/4k@120. I'm a little miffed to spend $1,000+ for just those features but how would this compare to what I currently have?
I did slap a couple of ~500 rpm fans on it just for peace of mind.

Better HDMI features, more channels, and better speaker room correction. Bass management may suffer a little.
Also the LX305 has a universal crossover instead of channel crossovers.
I believe it just auto powers on, off, and switches input to you Sonos port or connect when music is sent to that device. Then with the connect or port you can also send audio from the receiver to other Sonos devices. It is a nice feature but you still have to spend more to make use of it. It should work with the old connects because this feature came out before the port was out.

Absolutely. I would have made the jump if the prices were that close earlier in the year, the crossover limitations are kind of a bummer but maybe it handles tone adjustments better.
The NR7100 and RZ50 increase the noise floor dramatically if you adjust any tone controls when at higher volumes.
I like the ability to adjust treble and bass on the fly depending on the content but it's just not possible on the Onkyo models if you listen near reference due to the high noise floor adjusting them causes.
Dirac also raises the noise floor slightly but it's not really noticeable until you get near -0db which at least in my room is way above reference and would be likely kill my speakers in most real content (with the exception of Tidal Atmos mixes which have a very low level).
