On a brand new 9.2 receiver with a 3yr warranty? No.
If you ever used receiver that did correction you would know. it just clearly sounds better. And it's not doing it by adding some kind of sound effect or anything.
The license itself is $349 from Dirac directly. It's really good software, but you may need to tweak the final result. The universal crossover may be a deal breaker for some people.

Dirac is better than the MCACC or AccuqEQ calibration software these receivers usually come with.

I am debating this or the nr7100 for $629 (too bad it isn't still $529...). I know the Onkyo allows for different crossover settings. That seems to be the only edge it has over the Pioneer. Would adding a fan to the Onkyo fix the overheating or is the Pioneer just built better? Trying to decide which of the two is "better".

The overheating was probably a defect for that unit. I've had a NR-7100 since December 2021 with no heating issues. About a year ago we did some remodeling and I put the equipment in a server rack in a closet. I didn't want the heat going up and heating the shelf above the receiver so I put an AC Infinity on top to vent the heat to the front.

Just saw this pop up.

I currently have a Denon X3400H and the only thing I'm really missing is VRR/4k@120. I'm a little miffed to spend $1,000+ for just those features but how would this compare to what I currently have?

I've had an NR7100 since March and have had zero issues. Driving 6 ohm speakers in 7.4.2 (minidsp for subs) configuration (they actually dip to 3.5ohm) and have driven them quite hard (well over 100db in a 2000 cu ft room). I have the towers set to 60hz, center to 70hz, all surrounds and heights to 80hz.

I did slap a couple of ~500 rpm fans on it just for peace of mind.

These work well:

Better HDMI features, more channels, and better speaker room correction. Bass management may suffer a little.

Also the LX305 has a universal crossover instead of channel crossovers.

Does anyone know how a Sonos certified works? I'm hoping that means I can play what's on my receiver on all my other Sonos devices and control my receiver as though it was a Sonos device as well.

I believe it just auto powers on, off, and switches input to you Sonos port or connect when music is sent to that device. Then with the connect or port you can also send audio from the receiver to other Sonos devices. It is a nice feature but you still have to spend more to make use of it. It should work with the old connects because this feature came out before the port was out.

Probably worth an extra $100 to step up to the VSX-LX505 for more power and future expansion with 11.2 processing for those interested.

Absolutely. I would have made the jump if the prices were that close earlier in the year, the crossover limitations are kind of a bummer but maybe it handles tone adjustments better.

The NR7100 and RZ50 increase the noise floor dramatically if you adjust any tone controls when at higher volumes.

I like the ability to adjust treble and bass on the fly depending on the content but it's just not possible on the Onkyo models if you listen near reference due to the high noise floor adjusting them causes.

Dirac also raises the noise floor slightly but it's not really noticeable until you get near -0db which at least in my room is way above reference and would be likely kill my speakers in most real content (with the exception of Tidal Atmos mixes which have a very low level).

For folk who did buy this unit (like I did) be aware that dirac works best once you trim you speakers and sub prior to starting analysis. Also note that PREFERENCE is not REFERENCE. If you want this unit to perform at it's best, you've got to put a little work in to get it the way you like it

So grab this or hope that Adorama puts the Onkyo TX-NR7100 on sale again for the same price?
The TX-NR7100 is still listed for $629 when you use the link from the original sale (if you search for it directly it will be listed for $699):

Just purchased a Denon x2800H for $675. Should I return and buy this receiver at the same price?

Here is a feature comparison, should help answer you question, after all it only matters what you think.

Does anyone have issues with this receiver taking a really long time to switch between sources? Like TV saying no source amount of time? I really hate it I wish I could bring it back but it's a refurb unit. The one back a couple months ago that was like $700. My TV is not HDMI 2.1 with ERC if that makes a difference
