I'm a simple man. I see The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended + Theatrical) (4K Ultra HD), I click the thumbs up button.
This is also part of the Buy 2 Get 1 Free promo.
These are good quality 2k scans upscaled.

This link in german compares the blu ray to the uhd. Looks like it desaturates a bit, but to me UHD looks better and the detail is better. https://blu-ray-rezensionen.net/d...en-4k-uhd/

So no digital codes? Thats why its low priced?

While most movie studios only claimed "may not be valid after" on the dates listed on digital codes. Warner Bros did a BS move (because they're awful now) in actively pursuing to invalidate codes that hit their printed expiry dates. So only very recent releases (seems like the last 3 years) still come with still active/valid digital codes.

Send them a message that this is practice is BS and don't buy their titles with expired codes.

I just received this. The Extended movies each have two blu-rays each to be able play each movies with all of that data. The Theatrical movies are just one blu-ray...ha ha

I've read the recent remastered Blu Rays are superior to this 4k release. The 4k release uses excessive DNR and isn't true 4k (upscaled 2K). I'm sticking with the Blu Ray set.

If you buy, make sure to test all 4K discs early on. I have one of these sets with the manufacturing defect on one of the 4K discs that makes parts of the movie unplayable.
Same. The FOTR and ROTK played fine for me, but the second disk of TT did not work.

This 4K release is really really mediocre. They did a pretty awful job upscaling.

Be prepared for an inevitable re-release with better scans.

Part of the problem is that the original movies were mastered digitally in 2K resolution. There's no "better scans" available because they weren't mastered on film.

If you have the blu-ray already. It's not worth the upgrade and there is a high chance of the codes not working. Quite a few of the 4Ks i bought this year from WB had expired codes. Cheaper just to buy from Vudu.

The new remastered 2021 blu ray apparently uses the same DNR that these do and the same scans without the upscaling. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Th...30/#Review

The older original blu ray on fellowship apparently had very greenish saturation that many complained about.

As mentioned before in this thread, 2k scans are likely to be the best we get since there's so much cgi that would have to be completely redone to get a proper 4K. If anyone likely would do it, it's probably Peter Jackson but he's also so involved with upscaling tech I think that's likely the next version if any. Maybe some newer ai assisted upscaling that isn't as aggressive on the dnr but I'm speculating. Regardless I think these are probably the best we get for many years.

yeah, that's how nearly all movies with CGI were up to 2019 or so. For a while, the only true 4k movies were scans of older movies shot on film without CGI.

real or fake 4k .com was a great resource that somehow disappeared. The only consistent real or fake 4k details are now on the IMDB technical specs section of the movie page

Bluray dot com states in the details at the top of each release if it's native 4k or upscaled.
