From my understanding XFinity/Comcast has been increasing upload speeds in some areas. If you got an email it probably means your area. For increased upload speed you need an OFDMA compatible device like the CODA56. S33 will currently not work if you want increased upload speeds.

List of devices compatible with "Next Gen Speed Tier". [xfinity.com] Again, this only applies if you got an email about increased upload speeds

Edit: If you don't mind 35mbps upload cap or you're not on a plan that would even get you enhanced upload speeds this modem still works great for Xfinity/Comcast.

You shouldn't be getting charged for those tech visits. Ask for a supervisor if you're dealing with someone over the phone.

250mbps on a 1gbps plan is a line issue, not a modem issue. Likely a splitter or cable run that has gone bad. they should be able to see signal at the tap and node without having to visit your house first. If all of those are fine, then you should be testing speeds AT THE MODEM. Not your PC or anything post modem, at your modem. That's all they have to supply. Anything past that is your responsibility.

Trying to figure out why my Motorola MB8611 costs almost double this. I bought it during covid lockdown to future proof, although at that time it was $160. Using comcast and been having problems with this modem, but I'd hate to get it and have it not fix my problems.

I hate to make another me too post, but I have had this modem for close to three years after upgrading to the gigabit service from Xfinity. I don't come close to get 1gb down (usually around 250mb). I have had several of their techs out and they blame the slow speed on everything non-Xfinity (PC, modem, cables, ethernet card, etc.). They have not been able to get me the speed I pay for and their tech visits which are a joke cost $75 each. I am currently trying the Tmobile $50/mo 5G internet and it is really hit or miss. At least Xfinity has been steady for me with no disconnects, etc. Slow, but steady.

Back on topic, I tried both this modem and the SB 8200 as they were about the same price at the time and this was faster for me.

I have this exact modem and Xfinity 1gb plan.
I average 500-600 Mbps DL.
Why?
FYI I get 40 UL which is what I'm paying for.

Same here except I refuse to have techs out to charge me $75

Bought this modem 2 months ago. Regularly getting 1300 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload over Ethernet on our 1200/35 Xfinity plan. No issues so far.
Note: To pull speeds over 1000 Mbps, the router and switch need to support multi-gigabit speeds as well.
Both of my Switch and Router support multigig speed but I get around 500-600 DL still

And this modem is technically capable for the faster upload, it has the appropriate technology, it's just a matter of if/when it is certified. It's just a really slow process between the manufacturer, a third party assessor, and Comcast. I'm tempted to jump on this deal because I think it will eventually happen, but there's no 100% guarantee. The current options are pretty bleh, either super expensive overkill stuff or the CODA stuff (which have some limitations/issues).

This is DOCSIS and how the Cableco deals with it. Charter is the same, they call themselves Spectrum now because they sullied their name so badly. There is no solution to make DOCSIS as reliable as fiber or DSL, the ping will always have a wider jitter and it will always drop a packet for every few thousand, and Charter reboots their equipment after midnight almost weekly, so there's a 2 minute outage that's normal.
BUT, it certainly can do 1gbps downloads. You will have to make a complaint with the FCC to get someone higher up in the company to contact you, and they will. They will get the line crew on it instead of the techs they usually send you. That would be where you demand your money back for the previous service call. Let them temporarily install their own modem and check bandwidth to prove it's not the line. That should have already been done. If it is your modem, you are SOL though.

I've had the SB8200 for a couple years and think it is starting to overheat. Do you think the S33 is worth the upgrade?
When I was choosing between an 8200 and the S33, the primary difference of "real" concern for the average user was the Ethernet port. The S33 supports true 2.5Gb connection via a dedicated port while the 8200 offers link aggregation of its 2x1Gb ports and is therefore limited speed-wise to 2Gbps and by whether your ISP supports/allows link aggregation to get those speeds.

The 8200 runs marginally cooler on average than the S33 because it doesn't offer as much speed as the S33.

People also didn't like the way the status lights on the S33 worked: the 8200 has individual indicators while you basically have to keep your manual around to know what the light on the S33 is trying to tell you. The other deciding factor for me at the time was price—I got a brand new SB8200 for $80 and the S33 hadn't dropped lower than $180

If you're on a connection that exceeds 1Gb or will soon, and/or the prices are similar, and your 8200 is definitely struggling, go with the S33. Otherwise, another 8200 would be fine if it's significantly cheaper.

I would strongly recommend against Arris, and the S33 in particular. I owned one for about 9 months before it crapped out. Worked great for about 6 months, worked unreliably for another 3 months, then died. These run very hot and I learned after it failed that death from heat is common. Some people keep a fan pointed at theirs.

Beyond the unreliable product, Arris customer support is truly the worst I have ever experienced. They offer a 2-year warranty. I called and got mine sent back for repair/replacement. The process was a headache, but they sent me a replacement. I was travelling and busy for a few weeks, so I didn't have a chance to install it right away (switched back to Charter modem in the interim). When I did get around to installing the replacement, I found that Arris had sent me a used modem with a pin stuck in the coax port. There's no way they could have even tested it with the pin in there. I tried my best but that pin was not coming out. The whole port needed to be replaced.

I called Arris back and they flat out refused to do anything about it. Evidently their 2-year warranty only covers one replacement, and if they send you junk and you don't notice within a 14-day window, you're out of luck.

TLDR: Original unit died after 9 months. Arris sent a broken replacement, then told me to pound sand.

This is a bad modem from a bad company. Lots of other 1-star reviews commenting on the heat and support issues. Save yourself the headache and stay far away.

Here is my Amazon review: https://www.amazon.com/gp/custome...J65KDVK7G6

I have this is, it's a good modem and I recommended it. I hope comcast certifies it for their new nextgen speed tier soon. I don't want to drop $100 on the coda just to see this certified in two months. I can wait. I don't upload much anyway. This gets me > 1Gb download on the 1.2 Gb plan
