Purchased this last week so here are few observations:

Contrary to the included image, there is no fingerprint reader on the touchpad. No big deal for me but it might be for someone else.
SSD is MZVL4512HBLU-00B07 [samsung.com], model PM9B1, PCIe 4.0 x4, Sequential Read 3500 MB/s, Sequential Write 2500 MB/s.
RAM is M471A1G44AB0-CWE - 8GB 3200MHz. It cost me $15 to buy an 8GB module on eBay [ebay.com]to replace the included 4GB module and upgrade to 16GB total system memory.

Ryzen chips with integrated gpu's these days can crush any normal work and basic gaming ... The only deal breaker is the keyboard not being backlit . If that's not something you worry about the this is fine.

"Note: In any case you need to switch out from S-mode [microsoft.com], you could always do so for free with few clicks, but it's a one-way operation."

Why would you ever want to be in S mode? I thought it was primarily for low powered / low memory computers,

Maybe
But in the case of this laptop with Ryzen 7 HS (high performance efficient) and 12GB RAM, I don't think we would consider it as a low-powered machine.
I believe, in certain extent, it's a protective strategy of M$, to compete against G products.
Anyway, there is a way out.

Starting to look for laptops again after being out of the loop for a while. Last time I bought a pc was 2017. In the grand scheme, how good a deal does this seem to be in your opinions?

Let me introduce some of y'all to MAS for that Windows 11 S
https://github.com/massgravel/Mic...on-Scripts

*Edit: Actually, I'm not sure if it removes the "S" from Windows 11 S. If someone could test it out, please let us know!

*Edit 2: Dang, Hat-Trick informed us that it's not possible because MAS can't even be run on S mode...

Yes. I track laptops in the $300-$450 price range and this is great for the price.

How is the build quality? Specifically the hinge(s)? This design looks a little more well thought out and sturdy compared to Dell, Lenovo, HP, and Acer machines in the same price range.

Pretty close, however, for what you do, you could get something w/ lesser specs. at perhaps $50-$75. or so less & still be just fine. Repped, OP.
