Yes, they are 2.0, but $3.50 for a couple of 32gb flash drives from a major manufacturer seems like a good deal if you don't have the need for speed. Shipped and sold by Amazon.

I've never had a PNY flash drive live past a couple of years but all my sandisk are still going strong.
Trust me, you'll never use these. If you ever do, you'll hate yourself for wasting money on junk like this because file transfer is so slow by today's standards. USB 2.0 is actually not the bottleneck.

I have PNYs as boot devices on several dozen storage appliances. They typically get > 5 thousand read/write cycles before we start marking bad sectors. That's very much on par with Kingston and SanDisk flash drives.

not if you own some MSI MB that mysteriously loss BIOS once a while and require you to use a USB 2.0 that's no longer than 32G to do the flash back.
i have one permanently stuck in the flashback USB port for this use.
A niche use case where USB 2.0 might be preferable is for something like FreeNAS or Unraid. USB 3.0 provides no performance benefit over 2.0, but 2.0 can provide better stability/compatibility. People generally repurpose old hardware to use as a NAS, and yes, even though USB 3.0 came out back in 2008, USB 3.0 support in BIOS during boot in some devices have been known to be more flaky.
So if you like to tinker with old devices and need flash drives for boot, updating, etc., it might be worth having a couple of these around.
If you deal with older Cisco or network devices these seems to read fine
Got 5x32 gb for $17.48 so about $3.50 each.
Good for sticking to cars for mp3 playback
Firmware upgrades.
Giving large files to coworkers and not having to worry about losing your nice fancy drives
Got these exact ones on clearance at Walmart for like $5 a couple years back. I bought several and half of them were flaky on working and the ones that did were slow. I wouldn't take them if they were free.
these are good for creating windows boot drives
but even then, they're not great
i have a ziplock bag of these things in 16GB version, bought during the sales in 2015-2018'ish time frame when they were $5 a pack or something like that
there is something up with them, i don't know what, but windows media creation tool kicks about 1/3 of them out. i've tried all of the steps, but about 1/3 of them just won't work with that tool. the others are just fine though
i don't use them for anything besides windows boot drives, and then a handful have the anti-malware/anti-ransomware recovery programs to run in the event you get unlucky

yeah same here
it's a toss up if you get a good one or bad one. something is weird about them

Given that my car hates USB 3.x devices, I'm willing to take the gamble on a "write MP3's to it once, read many times in the car" device.
There's a more modern 256GB Sandisk model that goes in and out of stock regularly for $12.49. Seems to be the sweet spot currently on flash storage/price.
I've had a USB 3.0 256 GB PNY brand flash drive for easily six years. Can't say I've punished it with the heaviest of use, but it still works quite well. I've had numerous other PNY products and have come to consider them a reliable brand.
That said, if you're looking for a cheap thumb drive, Team Group has yet to let me down and their USB 3.2 drives cost about the same as these 2.0 drives.
