Which series was that?

Having had numerous TCL TVs I would absolutely stay away from the 4 series, the 5 series would be the lowest model I'd ever consider.

Two different 4 series developed awful dead spots, all of the 6 series TVs I've ever had work just fine.

For all of the experts here--how would this set compare to an OLED screen? I know QLED is supposed to be quite close quality wise but is this a fact?
It'll also depend a lot on location. I had a Sony OLED in our BRIGHT living room and at times it was terrible. I picked up the 65" QM8 last year and put the OLED in our bedroom. I am extremely happy with this TV. Even when my living room is ungodly bright it keeps up. Very happy with my purchase.

It's not going to have the sharpness of the OLED, but you'll only notice on Black images on light backgrounds and vice versa. Going from a plasma to a miniled QLED, the blooming is there, but hardly noticeable.
Thanks a lot. Good information to have.

This is great news for me. I am actually looking to replace an 85" Hisense TV in our family room that I've had for 2 years. It was just a regular 4K TV. The room has a lot of windows and light coming in. It's been totally fine with no issues and we've been really please with that. However, I want to get something with much better picture quality. I debated on the 98" for the bigger screen, but I think right now the picture quality is more important. I may be picking this one up this week. Thanks again.

gosh, I finally decided on the Sony X90L over the QM8, then this happens. QM8 pulls ahead at this price.
TCL 98" for $1999 with free mounting from Best Buy could be a surprise choice also.

Uses: bright room, AppleTV, xbox/ps5, netflix, 4k bluray, sports, youtubetv, disney, etc
Stick with Sony X90L. It's a superior TV all around, even with price difference taken into consideration.

Expect to use an external dongle like a Roku, Firestick, or Chromecast with a TCL TV. The wifi cards and motherboards on these are ridiculously weak/slow and make for a horrible experience on the built in Google TV. Image quality and brightness (I have a 85Q650G) are good for the value.

I complained to TCL of a super laggy and buggy OS on the TV (random black screens, audio missing, super slow navigation). They came out and replaced the motherboard and wificard (they used a 3rd party) with the model below it from the 5 series and now the screen buffers anytime I turn on the microwave. TCL OS build is really that horrendous.

theres still a lot of upside to the sony even if it isnt as bright and doesnt have as many features. sonys colors, image quality, and movement processing is always going to be better than nearly every other brand. I think the QM8 and hisense u8k are both great but are closer in tier than Sony flagship displays. I have an older Sony x900H flagship and a Hisense U8K. The U8K makes everything pop and the brightness is incredible, but movements always look a little off in content viewing. In comparison the x900H looks like it has a really organic picture and movements feel correct even for an older tv.

Fyi qled isnt a real thing, nearly new LCDs tvs these days are qled. Some companies call it something else like triluminos, nanocell, xled,, uled etc... They're all the same thing which is just a form of quantum dot filter on the screen. Samsung just popularized the term QLED in their marketing and now everyone thinks its something special. For instance All MiniLED tvs for instance are Qled. We should be comparing lcd to oled, not qled to oled.

All QLED filters do is let the LED backlighting of an image get brighter and more colorful, it doesnt improve the image to make it darker like how w/ OLED lit pixels work. MiniLED and Micro LED is how you get closer to OLED picture as they're brighter and improve the local dimming properties for LCDs to get them closer to OLED per pixel lighting.

I've had the 65" QM8 since the end of May and I don't feel this is true, at least for the QM8. I've been running Kodi 21 Beta 1 for months now (for Dolby Vision playback capabilities) straight from the TV and it's been 99% issue free. There's an occasional crash while watching a TV show or movie, but it legit takes ten or so seconds to relaunch Kodi and get back to what I was watching.

Granted the wireless gateway (Xfinity XB8) is only twenty or so feet away, so the Wi-Fi 6 signal doesn't have far to travel. And I feel the TV is pretty darn snappy. Anytime I have to browse through apps or submenus, I've never noticed any lag or issues there.

I've had an r615 equally as long, and like you, I've never had any problems. It was my main gaming (before I switched to PC) TV shows/movies TV up until last year and it did its job damn well. I still watch the occasional movie on it, and it's still got a beautiful picture!

If this has atsc 3.0 I'd probably bite. The 2024 models will have it.

I bought last month for $1800 from Amazon. Upgraded from my 3 year old TCL 646. Big difference with this model - NO blooming at all. The internal OS is snappy, but using mine with ATV4K and it is fantastic. No judder issues or any PQ issues at all. Everything just pops and is SUPER bright. I couldn't recommend this model more. Amazon brought it in, took it out of the box and had me power it on. I had them take the original box because they provide a generic box if you need to return.

Well we shall have to see how good Micro Led is because Mini LED is certainly not OLED quality
I certainly think the Quantum dot technology makes a difference, even on the OLED's
Look at what Samsung did with their QD-OLED 2 years ago and now it is the standard bearer of the best technology there is at this time.
Color saturation, brightness along with WOLED always had in the capability of black levels and viewing angle.

My opinion.... Stay away from TCL. My first developed multiple fine line cracks all over the screen and wifi issues.... Fluke? Purchased another model.... Dozens of failed pixels all over the screen after a short period. Not getting 3 strikes from me.
It never ceases to amaze me when people down-vote others for giving their real world experience with a product. I miss the days of slickdeals before it got like this..

Why anyone would choose this over an OLED is a real head scratcher.
