The 2022 has a bios update to USB4.

Edit: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1049059/ I get that it is in beta, but yes, it does in fact have a BIOS update to support USB4.

Differences:

- 4060 trades blows with the 6800s, in some games, esp at high frame rates, the 6800s is faster, in most games, the 4060 is faster by up to 15%, normally under 10%
- DLSS 3.0 is a big deal. Frame gen makes a big difference in high res single player games at very high settings.
- the 2023 is quieter and cooler by a small amount.
-165Hz display on this vs 120 on the 22.
- this one has 512GB storage, the 22 has 1Tb.
- the CPU is up to 20% faster than 22, I would bet you couldn't tell in normal use and few games will be CPU limited here.

Honestly, to most, I don't think this is worth it unless 4k gaming or RTX are critical to you

Edit: informs raw facts, someone who woke up on the wrong side of the bed is mad and downvotes it. lol

I'm in the same boat. The 2023 model here will have better performance, probably around 10-20% for both cpu and gpu, at the expense of more power and noise. I thought the 2023 is suppose to have a higher res webcam as well, but the description says only 720p.

I'm leaning towards the $700 2022 model for now, it doesn't seem like the upgrades are worth $300 more.

Edit: as others have pointed out. This does have a 1080p webcam, but website description is wrong.

ram and ssd upgradable?
Yes, one stick upgradable, one soldered. Has one 2280 M.2 slot so it can be upgraded with reinstall.

Which model, old or new, runs cooler for casual web browsing and watching videos? Want something that won't burn the lap or sound like an airplane turbine.
New, but not by a giant amount, the GPU is the really hot part in the 2022,

Are you referring to the 6800s with the Animatrix panel? Users said the 6800s is similar to the 3080 mobile, so it's faster (though older). If you care about fps, then the one to buy is clear.
6800M is similiar to the 3080 mobile, the 6800S is more like a 3070 mobile (until RT is enabled).

How's the backlight bleed ? Asus besides going OLED/ mini led has had backlight bleed issues on their laptops.

The Best Buy listing says 8GB on board while the Asus site says it is 16GB on board. Does anyone know which it is for this 4060 model at Best Buy?

I have this laptop, and run it on silent mode, on battery with -40mv UV. It doesn't make noise and stays cool for regular usage. You can disable the dGPU on battery, because it's not needed.

I didn't notice any noticeable bleed on mine. OLED would've been nice, but burn in is my fear. People don't change laptops as often as phones, and screens tend to idle on pages with a lot of static elements. The IPS display has good color accuracy, and there are profiles for P3, srgb, and stock

My bad! I forgot there's a 6800M.

Same near me, thinking about pulling the trigger. My current G14 (2020) was also open box and it was perfect. Only reason I'm holding out is the current G14 (2024) with oled display will be on clearance at end of year.

16gb for sure. It is a mistake that has been there for ages now unfortunately. You can check it on the box or on BIOS but the model has 16GB stick soldered. You can upgrade with 32GB or 48GB nonbinary stick RAM with 4800Hz from crucial or corsair fairly available online.

This unit has been in come and go discounts for a lot of times and I believe that many returns are from high price periods in between or try-return ones, which suggest very very little use for Excellent ones. So I believe they are going to be almost new in most cases. The choice should be yours in between the two. Look into hard facts and evaluate with your preferences and their strengths. Both models are great at their price. Sorry that I know this is not a strict choice suggestion, but in the end you will use it and you should be content with your choice! Wishing you the best.

Wouldn't they just get a price adjustment if the price went down within the return period?

14-day period for free Bestbuy members is sometimes restrictive and with their beliefs on another discount, they can return the new unit in hopes of buying it in discount period in open-box excellent condition, possibly the one they used, gives high incentives to returns I think.

You are also right, but from my knowledge point excellent units mostly are super-lightly used for such high volume trading units.

You can also download HWinfo after purchase, a very small app, and check the information about battery wear and cycle count, and computer diagnostic information. I highly suggest everybody to do this in any open box units.

Best

Just picked up a "fair" open box from BB - didn't come with the box but otherwise looks brand new.
