This is correct, although it still beats Amazon when it comes to price-matching: No price matching, even if the price drops before your order is delivered, so I appreciate them still having a price match policy and being easy about it (I bought this drive 2 weeks ago, just jumped on chat and they refunded $35!)

They do have Best Buy Plus ($50/year) which will get you a 60-day returns/price match window, and free 2 day shipping. Not a great deal unless you buy/return a lot from them.

One other note about bestbuy price matches: They only match once. If you buy an item today and it drops $50 next week, they'll match it. If it drops another $50 the day after, they won't adjust the price again.

With all that said, I have about 10 of these 14/16/18/20TB EasyStore's and haven't had any issues with them. Great for the price and highly recommended at this deal.

Yep, it was after Black Friday I think. It will go to $200 again. $250 is too high.

Buyer beware: Best buy's return policy has changed to 15 days for most items which also extends to their price match. This has bit me a couple of times recently. They used to be 30 days which seems to be the standard for most physical and online stores.

are these air or helium?

won't buy helium, won't be working in a decade when all the atoms leak out the seals

ps. NEW datacenter 18TB is $285 now too https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DHH8V9P
FWIW, the drive you linked to is helium (Helioseal Technology).

With amazon, you simply re-order the item that got cheaper, setup the return for original item and return the second one back.. Also, sometimes I just contact the seller and ask for a credit.

I have total tech so for me I get 60 day returns and price matches. Has saved me enough to cover the annual cost of Toal tech by price matching

interesting, what evidence is there that helium drives have only a 10 year lifespan?

Although his claim is scary, pull together a couple hundred bucks in a stash for ten years future and migrate your data then. Sure everyone has old drives that still boot up but their storage capacity are peanuts compared to current drives. Same thing ten years from now.

If you are spending this much you might as well get the 20TB from newegg/amazon for $280 each. For a drive that has been $190 before paying $250 now isnt worth it IMO
what is the mfg of the 20tb? can't find any that low

How many hard drives are you still using from 10 years ago in the first place?
One, a Toshiba 320 GB, got it hooked to a Wii U, still trucking along. And my external HDD's I used for my PS4 and Xbox One (now PS5 and Series X) are like 8-9 years old each.

And the SSD I've got in my PC is about 7 years old.

So, it's a thing.

Easystore is BB branding basically but the elements line is mostly the same just for other retailers. Reviews seem about the same and internal drives are comparable.

I've bought both over the years. The external plastic shell (that most of us shuck) looks a bit different but all the guts were the same.

If these are the same drives I bought like a year ago, and they seem to be. Mine were also white label inside, they seem to be kinda loud. They click a lot. I have no issues with performance, just a little annoyance with the loud clicking

There isn't any. It is an armchair experts fear and presumption that those who engineer server drives don't know what they are doing.

If you do some hunting in the internet you will see the same unsubstantiated fear language spread about tech forums.

BTW it is possible to have good hermitic seals with metals glass ceramics and certain epoxies. in high vacuum and space systems for instance they actually use maleable copper seals between components for this purpose.

I personally buy the exos drives and enjoy the high pitched voice I get when breathing near the computer now.

here is a great article on the complexity and challenge of helium sealed hard drives. though it doesn't address the lifetime or leak rate question it's still a cool historical read.

Are these good for archival, long-term storage, for mostly off loading photos?
