waiting for the 505 deal to come back.
most that have atmos will take advantage of it, so i'd say 99% of 4k movies, if you have 9.2 speaker setup

Sorry, I'm a bit outdated. Last AV receiver I bought was 5.1 Are there movies that take advantage of 9.2 or are the other channels just duplicated?

In addition to what others said, you can also power zone 2 (and maybe 3 w/ this one) if you don't use all the outputs. I have patio speakers running off Zone 2 on our setup.

I bought this few months ago as it was in my price range …I did configure dirac live with the mic setup but I don't really feel the sound coming out of the speakers even when I keep volume at 75% …am I missing something?
IMO..you would well advised to read and ask question as well in AVS forum with people who own this specific unit
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...o.3223737/

DIRAC configuration/implementation varies by brand

I personally own an Onkyo product, which I assume has a similar Dirac implementation to the unit in this thread
Comparatively, to the other Dirac enabled brand I own, it was a fairly simple set up
I had no such volume issues with the Onkyo RZ50 and frankly it was pretty straightforward

What are you basing the worth of this receiver on?..You realize that the no charge Dirac license you get with this unit is $400 on other models..correct?

Been going between this and the Onkyo 7100 that's been on sale for $550 recently, replacing a Denon x2200 that's perfectly fine other than lacking eARC and support for VRR.

What your thoughts on this unit versus the 505? Not sure if I should pull the trigger or wait for the 505.

There very little differences, the biggest would be the 7100 has a THX certification & does not have global crossovers.
Here is a comparison that should help.

Basically comes down to how much you value/need preouts which in turn also gives you expandability to 11 channels.
You also gain 20 more watts but unlikely to hear a benefit with that.

Here is a comparison to see the other differences.

Will you need now, or in the future, the capability of adding separate amplification?...that would be my litmus test between choosing those two

The other aspect for the extra $130 bucks is a better internal amp and processor for up to 11 channels versus just 9.

I am going to bet in a real world application the amp difference is minuscule...especially with more than 2 channels driven

Any other reasons this is not getting much traction at this price? Is everyone simply waiting for the lx505 to go on sale or are there truly better receivers in the $600 range that I am missing

Still haven't pulled the trigger on either, not a huge immediate need bc the vrr/120 hz support hasn't mattered much to me, haven't been gaming a ton since I got my new tv. Leaning towards the Onkyo if it goes back on sale...

I just want to jump on the atmos 5.2.4 bandwagon with direc live... currently running 5.2 no room calibration
