Be aware of the ASUS warranty, recently exposed by GN: https://youtu.be/7pMrssIrKcY

It is an excellent price for the specs, but personally, I will not buy any ASUS laptops before they make any changes.

I started the post, then had to do some actual work. I went back and posted it without seeing your edit, probably because I'm juggling three computers in different rooms. I'll let this go, but I do have to say I find it funny that were both such a jerk in the pre-edit post, and also thankful about the info I posted that you asked for in the other thread.

I don't understand the content perfection you're seeking here in the SD forums. If someone's post is useful, say thanks or rep or just move on. If someone's post doesn't stroke you in just the right way, also just move on. We're a community. People are trying, for the most part (scammers and spammers trying sell/affiliate their crap are another matter), to help and get help. It's all a give and take.

Have a nice day. Thumbup

I have some ASUS products from 2021 that have "issues" but are functional and basically their warranty process was unless it's catastrophic failure they refused to do anything about it. And from what I hear is ASUS quality in the last 1-2 years has worsened…. And their warranty center is ran by, only way I can describe it, sounds like the typical scam call center you hear about in India. Yikes

Been lurking for a laptop for a college student for quite a while, and this checked all the boxes. I'm in! Thanks!

Anybody know how easy it is to replace the battery... when the time comes?
battery life on the macbooks are incredible, much more suited for college life. real world battery life on windows boxes are abysmal. the advertised BL on this is 15 hours but its probably closer to 2-3, a quick search says 6-8 hrs.

FWIW, the "blurry screen" on OLED's is only on Touch screens due to the digitizer layer causing text to be not as sharp as a non-touchscreen display. This model does have touch, so I would expect it to be not as sharp, but there are other ASUS models that do not include touchscreen. Some people don't really notice it while others see it right away.
The digitizer creates a unique reflection, but I believe the text issue is more to do with color fringing on lower DPI panels and their pixel arrangement. Ideally, in a 14in form factor, I think a 1600p (or similar resolution/dpi based on aspect ratio) is an ideal density for a panel this size. The 1200p screens do alright, but there is noticeable color fringing in certain scenarios.

Overall this panel isn't bad though.

I get you like Apple products and that's perfectly fine to have a preference.

But your comparison here has negative value to this conversation.

The zenbook averages almost 15h on video playback tests and productivity suites.

That matches the new Macbook Air M3 15 tested battery life, of roughly the similar 15hr result.

However, you are comparing a 800 dollar zenbook to a 1800 dollar macbook.

So technically someone could ridiculously claim that you can get 30 hours of battery life out of 1800 dollars with zenbooks, vs going with macbooks, if you just bought two zenbooks.

You'd also save money.

Just pointing out how silly this comparison is when placed in context.

How's the battery life? I had the last gen Q540 with i9-13900 and OLED@120Hz but had a 3050 GPU and only got 2-3 hours battery life watching video.
I havent did a full test. I would say 4-5 hours without dimming the laptop and work on whatever you want. guess with light being dimmed, it should be around 7-8 hours.

Considering replacing my nearly perfect Asus Zenbook ux305L that I got around 9 year ago with this, that model is flawless but I'm starting to run into inherent issues with soldered 8gb RAM, only usb A, older HDMI, older WIFI/BT, uncommon m2 slot, and 2.2/2.8ghz 2 core cpu

It's funny how when the AMD version of this laptop was posted for $630 over the holidays, it received a bunch of complaints about the blurry text on the OLED screen, and ever since none of the posts of this line of laptop has ever mentioned it again. Was that a ploy to get people to not buy it over the holidays (which is by far the best deal of this laptop regardless of CPU)?
I tried the 8gb, Core Ultra 5 variant of this laptop, the screen is still "blurry". Every single OLED laptop/chromebook with a 13-14" screen at around 1080P resolution that I've ever tried and used have this problem. It was especially noticeable and annoying on anything with a white background.

Even non-touchscreen? My understanding is that it only affects touchscreens.

I bought and returned the Core Ultra 5, 8gb variant of this laptop and I didn't get anywhere close to 15hr battery life on video playback. I even used G Helper to disable the Asus services running in the background. I got more like 7-8 hours battery life on video playback (the Window Plex app playing video from my Plex NAS, and streaming services like Netflix etc).

I recently saw the $791 deal from Microcenter for M3 Macbook Air 13 and decided to get my very first Mac. The Macbook air get easily 13 hour plus on the same video playback usage.

Even non touchscreen. I dont think its due to the digitizer, more due to the sub pixel arrangement and pixel density of these 13-14" 1080Pish OLED screens

Another Apples and oranges comparison. Without even looking up that deal, I can already promise it is an 8gb macbook vs 16gb here. I am also pretty positive that doesn't come with a 1TB storage (which you cannot upgrade on the mac). I don't really care to open up the can of worms of 8gb vs 16 gb, but you are still talking about comparing an 8 gb vs 16 gb laptop. How much is your M3 macbook air with 16gb and 1 tb storage? How much is the m3 macbook with 16gb/1tb and a touchscreen? Crickets.....

If you care about battery life the Asus Vivobook S with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite is being announced in 6 days and plenty of other Qualcomm Snapdragon laptops are coming out. You get all the benefits/performance of a Macbook e.g. battery life due to the ARM processor.

Was it Touch? Both our Asus OLED laptops are non-Touch, and the text looks fine.

Never mind I see you answered that already. Both ours are higher than 1080p though.
