And uncle Tim knows this. That's why he wants you to pay ~$200 more for the extra 8gb. This one is just the bait to grab his extra profit selling the 16gb.

Dang if this were a 16GB memory module I'd be all over it!

The 8GB shouldn't be a limiting factor for 99% of people who post here. I used one of these as my WFH system (which doubles as a small gaming system, I don't play much though, I use the PS5 for that), running Teams, Discord, Apple Music, Outlook, Excel, Messenger, a handful of Elgato apps to run their lights and a Stream Deck, and a dozen Safari tabs and my memory doesn't go into 'yellow' unless I don't reboot for a few days. If I reboot nightly it's never a problem.

I also use one on my recording setup, same config, running Logic with several add-in components or Final Cut Pro, again with no memory issues.

I upgraded to an M2 Pro for my WFH setup only because I bought a Dell u4025 monitor that supports a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the standard M2 didn't. I notice zero difference performance-wise and it was, to be honest, sort of a waste of money just to get smoother scrolling.

Just in time for WWDC. My household is refreshed with new iPads, I really want this too! How to explain to wife. Any time I spend money, she gets mad and goes gambling and just loses my money Frown

I don't need apple silicon yet, I'm just going to build another hackintosh. The Mac mini I'd need @ 16 gb and 512 gb drive is already up in the $1200 range I think. Would rather build something for cheaper that I can replace parts on if they go bad, or expand memory etc.

1) That doesn't sound like a healthy relationship. Both of you should be allowed to spend the money as necessary. Granted, this Mac Mini may not be a necessary purchase, but you really need to have better communication.
2) Why is it "my money" and not "our money"?

Has anyone ever tried to get a good electronics guy to solder in memory modules? There's that guy on YT Northridge fix, that dude does some amazing work.
Just the time and materials cost would run you about $200. Not to mention the potential for catastrophic failure, and immediate/guaranteed loss of warranty.

can you mount this to a monitor? does it have mounting hardware?
You can, there are 3rd party who makes mounts to mount it underneath your desk, behind your tv, a stand to stand it up vertically, etc.

I did purchase one of these and I've had a darn time trying to set it up. It would not pick up my Bluetooth for the mouse so now I have to get a wired mouse and start over. Other than that, I'm hopeful

I will say that though you need your own monitor (could be a cost to consider if you don't have one laying around) this system will be a million times more reliable and user-friendly for the vast majority of casual home users than what most users end up opting for, which would be a substandard and bloated laptop at the same price. So at this pricepoint, the Mac Mini is king.

Apple will match if anyone wants to go thru them instead. B&H just had this deal at the end of May. I needed to replace my Late 2014 iMac and did so with the M2. Called Apple and they gave same discount (only $80 though on the $999 version). Just got it 2 days ago. I do a lot of personal photography and use Lightroom to manage and edit them, but it's a memory hog, so I bit the bullet and upgraded to 16GB and 512GB.

Reboot is not a solution. I do not recommend the 8GB version. I have it and run into memory issues too often with basic use cases.

I have 2012 mac mini with 16GB still going strong for my daily use. Is this better even though this is 8 GB?

What was the hardware exploit on M2 that cannot be patched?

Me too. How much to have Apple upgrade it though?
These are SoC (system on a chip), so nothing is upgradeable after it's made. Think of it similar to a modern phone with nothing able to be added.
