If you don't own or never plan to own external amps, then don't worry about pre-outs!
I suspect there is little to no difference, sonically, between it and the RZ50
The biggest difference would likely be the preouts on the RZ50
I have owned the RZ50 for about 6 months and sonically, in my opinion/environment, there is nothing even close to this pricing that compares
Its sounds better than another piece..the Marantz 7015 ..that I paid a lot more for
I would suggest if you buy this that you read( and heed) the owner's thread on AVS for Onkyo specific tips/tricks and how to set up Dirac
https://www.avsforum.co
Its not a plug /play and watch the menu room correction system such as Audyssey, YPAO, AccuEQ or MCACC from the Asian brands
I would highly suggest watching this video by a renowned AV Professional who worked directly with Dirac on tips and tricks on how to optimally use Dirac Live.
He even explains the differences of Dirac RCs and common confusions!
Having personal experience and owning Dirac RCs this is hands down the best information on how best to use Dirac(universally) imo!

2) How far are the speakers generally from your listening position?

That sounds like an HDMI cable issue to me
This is the one I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJK44...asin_
Not recommending any brand/vendor but here is what banana plugs look like:

Hmm....what brand/model of TV do you have
I assume CEC control is set to " on" on all the sources
My Onkyo RZ50 is connected to an old LG E7 OLED...a Tv that I have for years in a secondary room
It works fine...I have a LG UBK90 4K player and an Apple TV 4K box connected
The 4K player is running through the Onkyo RZ50 and I have the Apple TV 4K running directly to the LG E7 with a HDMI cable back to the Onkyo via ARC
It all works fine
However...I have had some recent issues with Sony televisions ( A95L and a X930E) that dont seem to be playing well ,(with their connected audio components) after the last update that Sony pushed out for them
Before the update everything was fine
The 3800 has many more but if those are not required/needed, this is probably the better choice.
If Dirac Live is the main feature you want but won't use/need the pre outs.
Just wait for the 7100 to come back down to $550.
There is zero sonic difference and the much better buy than this imo.
