Have been going back and forth between this and the Denon AVR-X3800H and was about to pull the trigger the RZ50 on Amazon for $999 tonight before I saw this. In for 1, thanks!

Ahh OK thanks! And this receiver is as good as good sounding as the RZ50?

The 7100 has the same DACs as the RZ50 and is rated w/less power (if you have a bigger room, go w/the RZ50). Biggest knock is the 7100 doesn't have pre-outs unless you get the Integra DRX3.4 sister unit.

Sorry what are pre-outs? And thank you for your explanations!

Pre-outs allow you to offload power from the AVR to external amplifiers. Receivers can allow as few as stereo pre-out to as many channels as the AVR can process! It is common to output the more important channels (center, L, R) to external amps and just let the AVR do the surrounds/heights.

If you don't own or never plan to own external amps, then don't worry about pre-outs!

I dont personally own the 7100
I suspect there is little to no difference, sonically, between it and the RZ50
The biggest difference would likely be the preouts on the RZ50

I have owned the RZ50 for about 6 months and sonically, in my opinion/environment, there is nothing even close to this pricing that compares
Its sounds better than another piece..the Marantz 7015 ..that I paid a lot more for

I would suggest if you buy this that you read( and heed) the owner's thread on AVS for Onkyo specific tips/tricks and how to set up Dirac
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...3/#replies

Its not a plug /play and watch the menu room correction system such as Audyssey, YPAO, AccuEQ or MCACC from the Asian brands

Imo rather than reading those 114 pages where you can easily get misinformation like you don't have set crossovers in the AVR prior to running Dirac Live.

I would highly suggest watching this video by a renowned AV Professional who worked directly with Dirac on tips and tricks on how to optimally use Dirac Live.

He even explains the differences of Dirac RCs and common confusions!

Having personal experience and owning Dirac RCs this is hands down the best information on how best to use Dirac(universally) imo!

1) It would be good to know the exact speaker models to see if we can find the impedance curves.
2) How far are the speakers generally from your listening position?
Thanks for asking. It's the set below. The subwoofer is still on backorder and not hooked up. The speakers are about 10 feet from the listening position in each direction (front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right, and I've got a set of two other rear speakers that came with the house that are hooked up as well. I've unplugged those to see if it works without the rear set plugged in, but have the same issue. Th audio also cuts out for a second or so whenever I try to adjust the volume.

From all sources connected?
That sounds like an HDMI cable issue to me
It does it for all audio sources. The screen (uses the same HDMI) stays on and the motion keeps going. I suppose I could try a second set. I bought two of these and the other one was bad, so maybe its an issue with HDMI. Would love to hear your thoughts on if there's a better option I should go for.

Your speakers are easy to drive so that shouldn't be the issue. Doublecheck how your speakers are connected in the back of the AVR. If you are going bare wire to the binding posts, see if any are touching each other to create a short. I prefer banana plugs or similar termination points for speaker wire to prevent such issues!
Not recommending any brand/vendor but here is what banana plugs look like:

That cable should work for ANY 4K source
Hmm....what brand/model of TV do you have
I assume CEC control is set to " on" on all the sources
My Onkyo RZ50 is connected to an old LG E7 OLED...a Tv that I have for years in a secondary room
It works fine...I have a LG UBK90 4K player and an Apple TV 4K box connected
The 4K player is running through the Onkyo RZ50 and I have the Apple TV 4K running directly to the LG E7 with a HDMI cable back to the Onkyo via ARC

It all works fine

However...I have had some recent issues with Sony televisions ( A95L and a X930E) that dont seem to be playing well ,(with their connected audio components) after the last update that Sony pushed out for them
Before the update everything was fine

Last year I auditioned this, Yahama A6A and 3800, Yamaha won by hair vs Onkyo. 3800 lagged - sound quality to me was a step behind. I calibrated all systems with Room EQ but did not pay extra for Denon Dirac. Did pay 20 for the App though. I think at this price Onkyo is a big winner.

Depends on what features you need/want.

The 3800 has many more but if those are not required/needed, this is probably the better choice.

If Dirac Live is the main feature you want but won't use/need the pre outs.
Just wait for the 7100 to come back down to $550.
There is zero sonic difference and the much better buy than this imo.

Anyone know if the stereo mode bass has been fixed in an update or something? I could never get the bass right in stereo. It would not allow the subwoofer to be turned on. I enjoy movies and music. All the other listening music modes just didn't sound great.
