The difference is the cheaper one shares a screen so its less resolution and no IPD adjustment since it is only one screen. The advantage is its only $10 bucks effectively since you get a $20 Steam Giftcard. Even the better headset only comes out to $25. Both come with a BlueTooth controller as well...heh

True, these were cheaper two months ago, but really... if you even a slight curiosity to VR, this is the cheapest price of admission. Reviews sway from horrible to worth it for the price.

I own a Rift and Odyssey+, but I still bought one. If its good enough for Elite: Dangerous, its an insane value.

To answer any questions:

It is an actual VR headset with all the electronics built in.

It has no motion controllers and it has no sensors other than the ones built into the headset themselves. You must play stationary either standing or sitting, but you dont need to physically move your body.

So then how is this VR?
Its VR as much as Oculus GO and DayDream and GearVR are concerned though using your PC should have way better graphics.

What games can it play?
You can use SteamVR natively. But really you should only be playing games that can be played with a controller, or external device like a racing wheel or flight hotas. So should be perfect for racing games and flight sims.

What about movies and ...stuff?
Yes.

I heard its got bad motion blur, only runs at 60hz and makes users wanna throw up?
Could be, spend the 10 or 25 dollars and find out yourselves... but you should know a new software update was released recently and at least in the case of the 1440 version the frame-rate goes to 90-120hz now.

I do use Steam so the gift card will be used, but I don't know if I should risk getting this for $10 or $25?

So what it the difference between the two - why is the power spec'd version more expensive?
It isn't. The 1440 x 1440 version is per eyeball, 2 times 1440 x 1440. The single 2560 x 1440 is a single screen split into two. Effectively 1280 x 1440 per eye, but since its the same physical screen you can't adjust for IPD which is how far apart your eyes are.

Okay, so what is IPD and why is it worth $15 more here?
IPD is the distance from your eye to your other eye. In the low-end model you cannot adjust this as they share the same screen. You will still be able to see, but depending on how far off your eyes are dead center from the default position it can cause various degrees of irritation and fatigue. Having dual screen in the pricier version allows this IPD adjustment making it literally easier on the eyes.

Back to the controls and games... what exactly can I play?
This comes with a wireless adapter as well as a wireless controller. Go into Steam and search for all their VR games. Go to the filters and check "Full Controller Support". You'll get a list of games you can use with a controller - those are the ones you can use with this system. Along with any game that can use custom controls like a Hotas for flight sims or a racing wheel for racing games - those should all work great too.
examples include: Elite: Dangerous, Resident Evil 7, Lucky Tales, Skyrim VR, Dirt Rally

What about support, I'm not much a techno-geek and might need help.
Sorry... It sucks, but part of the cheap cost is the lack of premium stuff like proper support. I hate to say it, but if you need more help than what Google can provide, and/or have high expectations for a flawless setup... its best you just skip this.

Talking Motion controls I take it. Yes it's needed for some modern games. You can look up FreePie VR on YouTube they show videos on how to use like the Wiimote and Nunchuk and such.

You can even map Mouse & Keyboard to motion controllers.

Quite a few ways on the cheap. As of now I am playing games that use a Controller. Soon I will dip into the Wiimote method.

Adding in for those that want to or did dump these because of the 80hz being too low... The new Rift S announcement said that Rift 1.5 (basically, calling it how it is) will be 80hz panels not 90hz. So thats proof that those here running 80hz aren't lying to you about it being good enough.

Cool.

Another quick fix I discovered. If you notice a blue line in say Steam Home VR or some games just go in the SteamVR settings then developer. Change large room to standing and click quick calibrate (will reset back to large next boot). Goodbye blue line.

Usually useful for those OCing higher resolutions and refresh rates from there displays. Doesn't hurt anything to install as it just removes the 165 MHz pixel clock limit for single-link DVI and HDMI.

What I suggest.
Use, MotherVR which has been updated to integrate nicely into the menu.

Doesn't matter what order you do this in, but you'll have to restart the game until you set all the options correctly.... so:
-Install/activate MotherVR
-once the game has started (you'll probably get an error) go into the MotherVR options on the menu. Choose the appropriate option to use SteamVR.
-In SteamVR deactivate Game Theater. (This is most likely the step you are missing)
-Restart the game and it should load in VR.

Helpful hint.... honestly the standard controller works better than touch controllers. You should go into the MotherVR option in the in-game menu and turn off the intro video. Its not needed and just wastes time when you want to play.

This was a good thought, but it is not a fix.

intel UHD 630 + gtx 1070 maxQ (optimus)
Windows 10 1803
WVR3 runs off HDMI 2.0 port of gtx 1070.
Holoview assistant says holoview & firmware is up to date (holoview v 1.8.0.0)

Driver pixel clock is patched. Still 60hz

The holoview setup file from the direct-tek website (mega link) is version 1.7.8.1.
If you install it and then update holoview from the holoview-assist (updater) task tray menu, you get version 1.8.0.0.

According to holoview-assist, that is the latest version. There are no more updates.
This has been my experience at least, only 1 holoview update is offered - not the 2 or 3 that some other posters have claimed. This is the case even if I wipe steam VR and holoview/-assist with revo uninstaller and try again. (There was a firmware update I did thru holoview-assist, but that's a 1 time thing)

Still 60hz.

If anyone is running a different version of the software below and is having 80Hz show up in steamvr that would be good to know.

For my WVR3 Headset with my AMD 290X it's 80hz. Holoview v.1.8.0.0.

@Distortion Correction. Look back a page. I listed a Reddit thread and another post a program in GitHub called Undistort.
So we all have the same software. It seems the 60v80hz thing does depend on the GPU. good to know.

I saw the steamvr-undistort program and whenever I launch the Undistort.exe nothing happens.

Either with the headset connected or disconnected, steamvr running or not running - the application doesn't actually seem to open. Is a 3D application or GUI supposed to launch?

The directions on the github page are also kind of sparse.
According to that page the app is supposed to use motion controllers for input.

Would you mind explaining how you were able to get undistort to work?
