VR-Tek Windows VR Glasses, FHD Resolution - 2560x1440 + $20 Steam GC
$29.99

VR-Tek Windows VR Glasses, Ultra HD Resolution 1440x1400 + $20 Steam GC
$44.99

There was a previous thread HERE.

The difference is the cheaper one shares a screen so its less resolution and no IPD adjustment since it is only one screen. The advantage is its only $10 bucks effectively since you get a $20 Steam Giftcard. Even the better headset only comes out to $25. Both come with a BlueTooth controller as well...heh

True, these were cheaper two months ago, but really... if you even a slight curiosity to VR, this is the cheapest price of admission. Reviews sway from horrible to worth it for the price.

I own a Rift and Odyssey+, but I still bought one. If its good enough for Elite: Dangerous, its an insane value.

Oddly enough Walmart reduces the price of the headset when tabulating the total so you pay less in tax and thus less overall with the extra Steam GC than with just the headset itself.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

To answer any questions:

Is this an actual VR headset or do I need a phone to put in it?
It is an actual VR headset with all the electronics built in.

Does it have motion controllers and what about the sensors?
It has no motion controllers and it has no sensors other than the ones built into the headset themselves. You must play stationary either standing or sitting, but you dont need to physically move your body.

So then how is this VR?
Its VR as much as Oculus GO and DayDream and GearVR are concerned though using your PC should have way better graphics.

What games can it play?
You can use SteamVR natively. But really you should only be playing games that can be played with a controller, or external device like a racing wheel or flight hotas. So should be perfect for racing games and flight sims.

What about movies and ...stuff?
Yes.

I heard its got bad motion blur, only runs at 60hz and makes users wanna throw up?
Could be, spend the 10 or 25 dollars and find out yourselves... but you should know a new software update was released recently and at least in the case of the 1440 version the frame-rate goes to 90-120hz now.

I do use Steam so the gift card will be used, but I don't know if I should risk getting this for $10 or $25?
Then don't and stop burying this thread because you're too chicken to spend the price of a lunch on something potentially awesome.

Additional questions:

So what it the difference between the two - why is the power spec'd version more expensive?
It isn't. The 1440 x 1440 version is per eyeball, 2 times 1440 x 1440. The single 2560 x 1440 is a single screen split into two. Effectively 1280 x 1440 per eye, but since its the same physical screen you can't adjust for IPD which is how far apart your eyes are.

Okay, so what is IPD and why is it worth $15 more here?
IPD is the distance from your eye to your other eye. In the low-end model you cannot adjust this as they share the same screen. You will still be able to see, but depending on how far off your eyes are dead center from the default position it can cause various degrees of irritation and fatigue. Having dual screen in the pricier version allows this IPD adjustment making it literally easier on the eyes.

Back to the controls and games... what exactly can I play?
This comes with a wireless adapter as well as a wireless controller. Go into Steam and search for all their VR games. Go to the filters and check "Full Controller Support". You'll get a list of games you can use with a controller - those are the ones you can use with this system. Along with any game that can use custom controls like a Hotas for flight sims or a racing wheel for racing games - those should all work great too.
examples include: Elite: Dangerous, Resident Evil 7, Lucky Tales, Skyrim VR, Dirt Rally

What about support, I'm not much a techno-geek and might need help.
Sorry... It sucks, but part of the cheap cost is the lack of premium stuff like proper support. I hate to say it, but if you need more help than what Google can provide, and/or have high expectations for a flawless setup... its best you just skip this.

Are you a shill?
I could be if this product turns out to be good for what I expect... if not, this will get flamed to hell from me any time someone else posts it Big Grin
2560 total on a single screen. 1440 version is 1440 PER EYE.
Any source on 90-120hz?

It's a wireless controller but I don't think it's bluetooth. I picked up a couple last time around. The controller is very cheap/lightweight feeling but seems to function just fine. It comes with a wireless dongle you have to use with it as well for the controller.

You'll quickly find that it's somewhat limited due to the controller not having any kind of motion tracking. I also had some crashing problems with the app but eventually it sort of works mostly. On the plus side it works with Windows 7 and doesn't require Windows 10 if you're still using that.

The 1440x1400 model (one I bought) is actually fairly decent quality. I'd have to dust off the acer WMR I have to confirm but I'd say the VR-Tek optics are on par. I had more problems with the Acer WMR due to the lack of hardware ipd adjustment as I think I need to adjust to one extreme fully for the clearest view.

I picked one up last time and have to say I was pretty impressed for the $30 for the higher end of these two models. I bought both, and the lower end model did not have IPD adjustment. So I returned the lower end model. But the build quality was decent. The driver setup was a little hokey, but it eventually settled and worked.

These are pretty much only good for things that work sitting still as they are only 3-DOF, so stick to Elite Dangerous, Subnautica, racing games or video playback. But is a great introductory into VR at this price. Definitely better than mobile VR boxes that go for around the same price. Resolution is great but colors are just okay, similar to the lower end WMR headsets.

Yeah, I saw that, but I think at the time since he posted that review they updated the software so at least according to some of the reviews, it now does 90-120hz instead of the 60hz and should mitigate many of his issues.

I didn't want to wait until I personally tested as its not expensive and reading some stuff it looked like the price had gone all the way back up shortly after the last post so I didn't want to wait....

I mean the absolute worst thing is you return the headset so why not?
Guess I'll find out for myself in a week.

I hadn't heard about the refresh rate boost, I'll have to try it out again. I will say that this is a very impressive headset for the price and was surprised with the build quality.

Funny, I have the same two primary headsets as you (Rift and Odyssey+), along with a bunch of other WMR headsets. But I think the Rift will be going to make room for Quest and inevitable Rift update.

I also own a PSVR and honestly they all have their place, but if this is good enough for Elite Dangerous and other games not needing 6 DoF then it would be great to recommend for folks who already play the game and just dont want to spend the money on established VR.

Really I wish I could use my Rift controllers with the O+... then id sell everything else.

Snagged one of the 1440 for $47 with the steam card. Worse case I can bring it to friends/family to show off some video's and the wife can use it for educational stuff for the kids.

So why is the 2560x1440 less than the 1440x1440 set?

2560 total on a single screen. 1440 version is 1440 PER EYE.

I'm interested in using something like this while I work, but to set the background to something relaxing like the beach. Any chance this would work for that application? Bonus if it works on a Mac.
