I really want this but I just want Warner Brothers to finally announce the collectors edition already. Between the new features and the price, I just want to see if it's worth it.

More info:
So after seeing your comment, I did a quick google and there is supposed to be an ultimate edition coming out this summer. So thanks for mentioning it. I'm going to wait and you saved me $60 that will go toward that ultimate edition.
Wow, I think this as cheap as it's ever been.

Obvious troll is obvious. He knows these aren't DVDs and is just negative karma farming for some reason. Don't feed the troll guys.

You know what weird. I bought the DVD, the BluRay, the Extended Edition, and now the 4K version. I've seen this movie dozens of times and I still keep buying the better format. At some point, we should be paying for the license of the movie title, not the different movie formats.

Wouldn't it come down in price because of the ultra super duper set? Black Friday?

If WB wants to sell more of the "super duper set" doesn't it make sense to keep the prices between the two closer together?

If I was them I would leave this at this price and bring out the super duper set and see what happens.

Makes sense not to reveal what's in it, more hype.
You then have many sales on that day for either or.

If people wait now maybe they buy one when the super duper one comes out.
If they continue to wait until BF, they make what they can and then come out with the Special Edition BD version 😜

Makes complete business sense IMO.

Is the HDR too dark? Some renditions the dark scenes are hard to see even if I turn up the settings.
I don't have this set so can't comment on the specific HDR implementation, but I did have this issue with some other HDR content (Expanse, I think) and what solved it for me was bumping up the gamma in my TV settings 1 or 2 ticks. (Sony 950h)

I for one did that also because its a fav of movies and there is an upgrade in PQ AND AQ each time.
Each time was a reference upgrade including this one especially on the AQ side which says a lot IMO.

I promise they're not planning it. As for whether or not it will ever happen ... I don't think it's likely before we see some kind of technology change that would allow it to be done with AI. It's expensive and outside of the Lucas/Spielberg family (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc) no one seems to be all that interested in that kind of thing.

For a 4K release, WB made kind of a splash with this one ... I would have thought now would be a great time to, say, fix the Gollum model from the first movie to match the much better one from 2 and 3. Jackson himself had involvement in this re-release, and yet they didn't touch any of the VFX. If they didn't now, I don't know what would compel them to later outside of a massive shift in the costs involved.
Interesting, thanks. I was under the impression this would be less involved since they already have the motion capture and movement digitized. Didn't think it would be so involved to replace an already digital asset (compared to what they did with SW adding digital elements to film).

See, here's the problem now a days...people struggle identifying facts from opinions.... You mentioned the word "fact" in your post referring to my comment however, when you read my comment through the correct lens, you'll now see the difference between fact, opinion, and hopefully this will help you in the future when deciphering what someone says.

You're welcome, have a lovely evening.
Thank you for responding. I honestly think we both have good points and I must admit that I might have taken it more harsh than it was and observed it as fact instead of opinion. I still do laugh at how the Clerks portray LoTR lol

LOL so you comprehend the difference from "DVD" vs "lAzER dIsC" but you keep asking "Are these not for DVDs?"/"Not DVDs?" 🤣

You might want to go back to your Xbox/PS before your mom tells you to get off of it and clean your room! 👍🏻

He's trolling. Just ignore him. This set even includes a digital code license, so his whole anti-disc schtick isn't even relevant here. If you want to watch a movie, you have to either stream it or use physical media like this. This has both. He's just a troll.

Yes, that's why I put "own" in quotes. There are several active lawsuits over digital licensing and the way companies tell you that you "own" a movie on digital. Hopefully, the consumers win for once, but I won't hold my breathe.
I see. I wasn't sure at the time your quotes meant you realized people don't own digital media. There are so many people who do not realize what you and I do (that digital media is just licensed and not owned) that I don't like to see the word "own" (nor buy) used in the context of digital streaming. Also, I'm cynical enough to agree with you that nothing will come of those lawsuits because corporations are so big and powerful the little guy can rarely beat them. We can't even get streaming vendors to replace the words "buy" or "own" with something like "buy license" or "rent". One of the biggest oversights of the founding fathers was not realizing corporations could become so large they could control and get in bed with govt for their advantage.

If you are talking about the 4K box, it is remastered versions. The regular blu-ray versions are not. Those were expected later this year, along with an Ultimate Collector's set of LOTR + Hobbit in one box set.

I know Spielberg did a special version of ET with tuned-up alien effects, but did they ever actually mess around with the FX in the Indiana Jones series? Lucas is famous for repeatedly revising the Star Wars movies, which half his fans now hate him for, so if I were Jackson (or anyone else at this point) I'd stay far, far away from anything that seemed like messing with the audience's precious memories of their favorite movies.
