I have MSI X570 Tomahawk, and it has been but a disappointment so far. Very buggy and unstable.
IMHO, If you are willing to pay more than 300$ for motherboard itself, i strongly recommend ASUS ROG STRIX or ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570 board. But it will be more than enough if you can snag one of MSI X570 Tomahawk, you can still save some money and provide almost similar experience. There can be a lot of debate whether you should not spend too much money on the motherboard itself, but there is a reason so many people have chosen MSI X570 Tomahawk. It will not have fancy RGB on the ROG boards, but will have pretty good headroom for overclocking (If you need any) and any troubleshooting. Enjoy your shopping!
Just buy a cheap x570 board. People spend way to much on motherboards.

Tried all motherboards, they're all pretty good imo, each are good and bad sometimes. Watch Gamer Nexus or Hardware unbox they pretty much breakdown which are the best and what features you need.

Asus x570 TUF Pro, and MSI x570 MAG are the two favorites I use on most my builds

You're better off waiting for the next Gen stuff and upgrading everything (DDR5, PCIe 5, zen 4, etc). You may not notice a JUSTIFIABLE performance difference just going from a 3900 to 5900
Agreed, a 3900 to 5900 is not enough of a jump to be noticeable in Photoshop or Lightroom and I doubt would be seen in Premier either. Wait for next release.

I was lucky enough to snag this processor on launch day. Just chiming in letting everyone know this processor is a beast for everything. Gaming, video editing, 3d modeling and rendering, programming, etc. It handles whatever you throw at it with ease. Runs a little hot but thats true of all Ryzens. Can be undervolted for cooler operation, or just run a tame power profile while not doing strenuous tasks. Highly recommend at least a 240mm water cooling setup.
In a custom multi-threaded stress test that consists of multiple iterations of HandBrake, POV-Ray, Cinebench, v-ray, y-cruncher, and blender renders, the 5900X peaks at 80°C using a Corsair H115i 280mm AIO cooler. In the same test with the same cooler, the only Zen 3 CPU to hit the max temperature of 90°C is the 5800X.

Is that X570 (Godlike) one even worth the extra $? That's the one I was looking at. It's like two or three times the price of the Tomahawk though, lol
i have the MSI MEG Ace x570, i like it alot, no problems in the last year. But the unify is a better value if you dont need RGB lol

Anyone wondering if you should upgrade from a 3900x to a 5900x. I did see a pretty solid difference. The 5900x has been better in games with solid gains in the 1% low. It's been a smoother experience on a 2080ti and now a 3080ti. While 4c/8t is still great for games, I find 12c/24t to be a very solid for games like Cyberpunk and HZD. No regrets getting the 5900x as an upgrade.

LOL. I have managed to get along with the same processor (the K version) since 2013/2014. Had intended to get the 5900X last year. The 3770K and the Asus P8z77-V Pro have been troopers! Never thought I would ride them this long.
Now need to find a good Asus board.

LOL, I have the same CPU and MOBO combo and I'm sending this message from it. Also looking at the 5900x and the Asus TUF mobo that has been mentioned here.

Are there any suggestions for a quiet/high airflow case? I'm looking at getting the Phanteks Eclipse P600S. Thanks

Perhaps CPU dependent. I have 9500x and 64gb of 3600 RAM. You?

Im running this x570 Tomahawk motherboard with a 5900x with pbo2 undervolt and 4x8gb ram 4400mhz @ 3800mhz cl14. Not a single issue.

I got a Lian LI Lancool 215 for the 5900x system and it's been really really nice. About to install a new system in a Corsair 4000d Airflow also so will try to come back and talk about that.

We're they? Well I tried all 3 of those also but never OC'd much besides the auto OC. Can't go wrong with either really

Tuf is more affordable and the one I use since it's VRM are highly touted.

Perhaps extra core causing issues... For a while I had this problem when computer would reset at no load at all unless I disable xmp profile and run ram at 2400. Then it turned out there is a setting buried in bios where you disable some power saving checkbox and resets disappeared. Still getting PC hang once in a while when I compile c code using all cores. USB is very unstable as well. Plug in usb3 hub and devices randomly stop working. They did some improvements in latest bios, but it's still not fully smooth. And if course, every time I update BIOS, all the settings reset and it won't load changes I made previously, so I need to manually change everything back. UEFI support is absolutely basic, either boots or doesn't, no option to browse for efi on start or anything of that kind. I dislike this board, there were way too many issues I had to deal with

Thoughts on upgrading from 3900x to 5900x for a Premiere/Photoshop editing system? I am perfectly happy with my setup but I'm thinking I could get $300- 350 for my 3900x and pick up the 5900 for ~$600 after tax. I guess I would need to buy a new cpu cooler as well.... Probably not worth it now that i'm thinking about it. Roughly a $350-$400 upgrade for ~15-20% gains?
Photoshop likes faster single core counts more than it likes more cores. Find the CPU with the best single core performance and go with that.
