$219 is perfectly reasonable for 1TB of PCIe 4 storage. I don't understand people getting pissy about it being expensive and a proprietary form factor when it's price competitive. Sony's getting close to releasing its own console SSD and it won't be any cheaper. With several MS games about to be released in short order, this 10% off comes at a good time.

Good price. Despite what ignorant people will tell you, not any NVMe will work. This price is more in line with standard drives and not much of a mark up considering the plug and play nature of the drive.

Pcie 4 drives fetch a premium over pcie 3 drives because they tend to be much faster. This is more expensive cause it's proprietary and because it can be. Pcie 3 drives with these speeds cost half as much. As for PS5, I thought the draw was that they would be supporting 3rd party drives not making one themselves?

It's not tho. PCIE 4 7000mbps read, 1TB. they are all in the $199'ish range.

And you're getting the PCIe 4 specification and the related performance with this Seagate card, and the pricing is in line with other non-proprietary media. Actually, the media isn't all that non-proprietary either, as it's a CFExpress media format.

Regarding the PS5, you are spot on - this was the promise, and I don't know what the delay is with Sony releasing an approved third party list and enabling the internal expansion slot. I'm sorry I don't recall where I recently learned that Sony themselves is on the cusp of releasing their own drive (or possibly sponsoring a specific third party drive?). Seems like it was Spawn Wave or Digital Foundry, but don't quote me - it was a generally reliable source.

Yes it is.

820MB = 6560 mbps.

It has to be that fast for quick resume.

Internal storage for xsx is 2.1GB/s, this isn't faster.
The drive you linked above is 7GB/s.

The standard PCIe 4 drive posted on SD is X4 while the XBOX drive is X2. So technically it's PCIe 4 but it's performance is PCIe 3.

Based on performance this drive is overpriced. That said I own one and I would buy it again but only because it's the best option right now, not cause it was a good deal or even decent deal but I needed it.


BTW I paid $188 plus tax with promo code at Target before it was released last November.

That's the speed of the external seagate drive that this deal is for.

Internal Xbox is 2.4 GB/s raw, but 4GB/s compressed. Gotta compare both speeds.

The drive is priced accordingly for the speeds you're getting to hit the fast resume feature.
