Some reviews say the $30-credit is for the 2nd month and others say they got it for the 1st month. Confusing.
I have activated and not immediate credit .. looks like 2nd month only

The $30 credit is added to your account within 24 hours after activating. Ting is a postpaid carrier, so the $30 credit should apply to the first bill.
It clearly states in the terms it's for the second month (too bad it's in the sim kit package and wasn't clearly stated beforehand in the listing page).
I had to pay $10 for first month even though I ported out within less than a day because they don't cancel your account automatically when you port out as well.

If you ported out in less than a day, you probably didn't have the account long enough for the $30 credit to be applied.

For me, the $30 credit was applied to my account less than 24 hours after activation. We'll see at the end of the billing period if it draws from the credit balance, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Here is my recent experience with Ting , I brought from target for $0.99 while registering I choose a $10 flex plan, the $30 got credited immediately when contacted the CS explained the every month I will be billed $10 for flex + data charges if I exceed the data limit( don't recall how much limit it was ) and he did confirm I am covered for 3 months as long I stay in a data limit. Also there is some promotion of $40 gift card for $25 plan , lastly the sim kit says activation before April 2023...

So is this good for activating new numbers from them while also getting the credit? Looking to activate a line with a new number as cheap as possible.

Also do they charge you if you want to change numbers every so often?

most of the time, when people are saying that,
they wanted to port from a land line to google voice.
Google voice doesnt allow you to port from a land line, only a mobile.
so a temporary cell service is needed.
When one comes along and offers a sim card and some credit, it becomes
very attractive to those who are desiring to do that.

I'm not sure why you got downvoted.

I ported into Ting a day ago and I chatted with a rep...rep said credit will show up in 24 hours. And it did. I'm buying another here; it's such a no-brainer for $1 and change if you need to port out for any reason.

aaaand it's now unavailable. F***

I've had good experiences with Ting. My bill is low and service is good. I was in South Louisiana when Hurricane Ida hit. I was told these type of 3rd-party piggy-back carriers are the first to lose signal / 4G during emergencies. But during the storm and after the storm I had better internet and service than my wife and her family. I think it's because basically all the AT&T towers were out of power, but other towers weren't necessarily (running on generators). Regardless, even in the most dire of circumstances, Ting performed well. I came from Verizon long ago which is probably more reliable with better coverage, but not worth the headache and cost.

I generally port to xfinity or visible. Both have BYOD deals occasionally. Xfinity just had a $200 BYOD, so ported 2 phones over. For Visible BYOD deals I activate the Ting SIM on a phone then port the number to Visible on the eSIM.

Xfinity and Visible are Verizon, so they bind their SIMs (and eSIMs) to the device IMEIs. That makes coordinating things a bit more work; last time I did this I entered the eSIM IMEI instead of the SIM IMEI, which I had to unwind (ugh).
