I purchased one of these yesterday. Shucked the drive and didn't get any power from my power supply.

Previously, I had shucked a 14tb easy store drive without issue.

You can google 3.3v white drive mod but you have to disable the 3rd pin.

I used the tip of my knife blade, removed the pin, and the drive works without issues.
Tell me a better alternative that is comparable to size and price and I would gladly follow your lead.
Not. I have 5 spinning disks in my main system. Powered on about 16 hours a day. The oldest is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB. That's my main data drive. It has been running since 2004. That's about 19 years.

I have a box full of old drives, all working, all replaced by a larger one.

How much would three 14TB solid-state drives cost? My WDC 14TB drives were $190 each, total $570 for 42TB. Newegg is $300 for the cheapest 4TB SATA SSD.

One problem with the internet is that no-nothings can spout off as if they are knowledgable..

There are people buying these old spindle drives still? Mechanical drive fail rates are HUGE. Unless you are using this once in awhile and rarely connect this thing, I would highly suggest against it
A little bit of heat will fry a SSD.

Waiting for this to drop below 260-250 range before upgrading. I have a mix of 10s and 14s and the price per TB here isn't low enough yet. Still paying a premium for the higher density.

You probably don't have a NAS, and store like 3 documents on your phone

WD are miles better than Seagates. Wouldn't trust a Seagate with any data. As for SSD, they fail and fail miserably. As of last check, there's no good recovery. At least on these drives you can get them to a clean room if you lose all access to every drive in a NAS.
