What a screen! There are a few of these for around $1k open box near me. But I've never pulled the trigger on one and here's why:
1) QC issues all over Reddit - some folks just got lemons, and even though updates helped some, I'm leery of getting a poorly-behaved one.
2) Yes, they're apparently blazing hot, and Ryzen Controller doesn't work yet on 6000-series AMD CPU's. That's what I use on my 2021 Razer Blade 14. You can disable boost in the registry, but I like taming these Ryzen beasts down to 55-60° and 12-13 watts to extend battery life.

You can use the power sliders inside armoury crate to limit the CPU wattage a bit and then it's not as hot.

Only one ram slot is upgradeable, the other being soldered on. I just got the 6800s on Saturday and will be returning it tonight. Arrived with lines on the screen after setting up. Could have been from shipping. When I opened the shipping box, only bubble wraps were on the bottom side of the box, and nothing protecting the top of the laptop box. I really wanted the 6800s, but I just placed an order for this 6700s for pickup.

Best bang for your buck laptop out there. I upgraded mine to 40GB of ram and a 2TB SK Hynix P41 SSD(imaging what an equivalent Macbook pro costs with these specs).

Due to it being a gaming laptop it does get warm/hot depending on your load. 120hz + IPS + Matte(no glare) screen is awesome. And 14 inches for me is the sweet spot for screen size and mobility.

This has a mux switch and DDR5 ram, not slow ram…
I'm guessing this is an older version you saw. I bought this a few months ago and love it. It's not slow at all runs beautifully and has a mux switch . Does run warm but expected that from a smaller machine and I've had no issues

It has one slot and 8GB soldered.

Having 2 modules doesn't really matter for gaming like it did with DDR4 though, since each DDR5 module itself runs in dual-channel.

I was seriously shopping this exact laptop last November. It was the exact same price, 1199. Amazing how no gaming stuff is dropping

This is not true. I have this exact laptop and have no problem running other drivers.
Did you have any issues with battery life after running the non-ASUS drivers?

This laptop has to use custom graphic driver from asus. Forget it and pass
i owned this laptop i did re-installed the Operating System clean. Updated to latest BIOS and installed the latest Adrenalin drivers. so far no issues. it's running quieter than original pre-loaded OS out of the box. still warmer but the fan noise is a little bit quieter. playing COD mw 2 using FSR 1.0.

I thought I'd add that my 6800s version is the 32Gb Anime Matrix version. You can adjust the sliders in Armory Crate to help with the heat or even modify the registry to see better minimum or maximum processor states in a Windows that helps reduce heat. It's basically ramped all the way up all the time. Before messing with the system I got max 4 hours of battery life and after it gets almost 10 hours.

Also I think Asus released a firmware to enable USB 4/thunderbolt.

I am typing this message on this laptop now, and I love it!. I bought it open box a couple months ago when it was on a similar sale. Here are some thoughts on it:
  • In my opinion, this 14 laptop is the perfect balance of being portable (not too thick and heavy) and being usable to get work done on the built in screen, or to become a real powerhouse when plugged into an external monitor and external power.
  • For reference I can typically get 100+ FPS @ 1440p on Modern Warfare II on high settings with AMD FSR. It's amazing.
  • The CPU is incredible. Even faster than my company issued laptop with an Apple M1 Pro CPU in some operations (tested compiling Go code as one example)
  • The screen is gorgeous, high pixel density, and high refresh rate
  • The keyboard is really great! I love typing on it. I'd say it's as good, or maybe even a bit better than my current gen MacBook keyboard
  • The trackpad is good, but not MacBook quality. It's a great size and tracks well. Clicking feels like it leaves something to be desired, though tap to click works fine.
  • Battery life is great, if you manage the power settings correctly (Silent Mode + GPU Eco Mode).
  • The webcam is bad, unfortunately. To me, this is not a dealbreaker. I don't use the webcam on my personal machine much, and even if I do, I have an external webcam I can connect.
  • Windows Hello support is really nice for fast, easy login
  • Regarding drivers, you can (and I recommend) installing the drivers directly from AMD. The driver that shipped with mine included Raedeon Software that tended to use the dedicated GPU even in the background so it ate up power for no reason.

Yes, it does run hot while gaming. I'm pretty sure all gaming laptops do. The fans are pretty noisy while gaming in the Turbo power profile. I have gotten used to this though and don't mind it anymore. I wear headphones while gaming and it's not a problem. For best gaming performance, the laptop needs to be plugged into the power brick that comes with it. You can charge the laptop off of USB-C, but it's not enough power to let the CPU/GPU run at full throttle. There's a good amount of testing and a writeup that was done on that here: https://www.ultrabookreview.com/5...t-monitor/

You need to keep the lid open and the vents clear while gaming. I tried several different configurations, including some with the lid shut, and it can overheat and shut down while gaming. The air intake is on the bottom of the laptop and the lid hinge props it up to let more air in, rather than sitting flat on the desk while closed. The parts of the laptop that you need to use while gaming (WASD keys) stay cool enough to game comfortably for hours.

Hopefully this info is helpful to someone. I really love this little laptop and this is a great price for it, especially some of the open box prices. Cheers!
