About this Item:
  • Next-level SSD performance: Unleash the power of the Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for next-level computing. 980 PRO delivers 2x the data transfer rate of PCIe 3.0, while maintaining compatibility with PCIe 3.0.
  • Maximum Speed: Get read speeds up to 7,000 MB s with 980 PRO and push the limits of what SSDs can do. Powered by a new Elpsis controller designed to harmonize the flash memory components and the interface for superior speed – with a PCIe 4.0 interface that's 2x faster than PCIe 3.0 SSDs and 12x faster than Samsung SATA SSDs – every component of this NVMe SSD is manufactured by Samsung for performance that lasts.
  • A winning combination: Designed for hardcore gamers and tech-savvy users, the 980 PRO offers high-performance bandwidth and throughput for heavy-duty applications in gaming, graphics, data analytics, and more. It's fast at loading games, so you can play more and wait less.
  • Efficient M.2 SSD: The 980 PRO comes in a compact M.2 2280 form factor, which can be easily plugged into desktops and laptops. Due to its size and thus optimized power efficiency, it's ideal for building high-performance computing systems.
  • Reliable thermal control: High-performance SSDs usually require high-performance thermal control. To ensure stable performance, the 980 PRO uses nickel coating to help manage the controller's heat level and a heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control of the NAND chip.

It's an NVME you'll never see and ideally should forget about.

Both are fine, go for whatever brand or packaging that excites you during unboxing!

I went for Samsung just because their magician software is excellent, and their warranty if ever needed, would be easier than WD. Just an opinion and gut. However, never had a quality SSD fail, and don't want to jinx myself.

Whatever performance difference there is between them, is technical and no one will notice any difference. If you do, then you are the .001% of a true computer pro with a very specific use case 👍
Difference should be negligible. For ps5 use, the actual ps5 architect Mark Cerny's persoanl drive is the sn850.
Nice deal.

I just found the deal and ordered one. I thought I would be able to post my first real slick deal in like 15 years, but you beat me. HAHA! The price changed from 220 to 180 while I was thinking about it.

The SN850X with heatsink is the same price…. So hard to choose between that and the 980 Pro.

Thanks. I'm buying samsung as well for the same reasons. All other drives are samsung and I like that I can manage the drive easily, and you could use it for other applications besides the PS5.

But is $250 for the 2tb 980 pro with the heatsink a good deal?

I'm not building my new computer for a couple of months. Good idea to just grab this now and sit on it?

The 980 Pro is an older drive and has been surpassed by several others (including the 990 Pro from Samsung). Having said that it's still ridiculous good and more than enough for most people. I used one in a PS5 until recently and it performed excellently.
