Newer to gaming laptops. How does this graphics compare to 3050ti? What makes this amd graphics card better? Is it worth spending more than this price? What graphics card should I be looking for? Budget $1500 so open to suggestions. Thank you for any input!

This is much faster than 3050ti, should be comparable to a laptop 3070

Not sure if anyone has experience with this…Is the 'open box excellent - certified' worth the $60 more over the standard 'open box excellent'?
I'm very comfortable with computers and never wasted money on certified, always bought either excellent or good. I can wipe the screen myself if there's a smudge on it. Don't need to pay $60 for that.

Mine is 6 months old with no issues. What issues are people hearing about? I can say that I messed with the asus Armory crate software and it started overheating but I just reinstalled armory crate and it went back to normal. So I messed it up.

I got this when it was on sale last time. Open box excellent for like 999$.

It is the perfect browsing, office, entertainment laptop. Stays quiet and cool for all those activities, while the 500 nits monitor is the best in laptops besides the lenovo's 500 nits monitor to match. There are only two 500 nits monitors on the market and this is the best bang for buck option, of the two.

For gaming this is not the greatest, it will get hot and its performance is lacking. You will have to play everything at lowest settings and it will still run hot. Just be aware of that, I have come to terms with it because I mainly game on desktop anyway. It does seem to play League of Legends and other low demanding games fine, but just don't expect much at all from it performance wise. I am disappointed in the performance very much with gaming, since its a gaming laptop and all games have to be in the lowest settings. I am not surprised however, since reading up on laptop GPUs and how their performance really is nothing like their desktop counterparts. You should be aware that laptop GPU's are like 50% as powerful and run hotter than their desktop models. So, laptops in general have weak performance and lack cooling needed for gaming.

As long as you enjoy the laptop for what it is, this is the best laptop on the market right now for this price range. Assuming you get a non-defective model.

The screen is absolutely beautiful, the 500 nits really makes a huge difference. You will never go back to anything lower. The speakers are theater grade in my opinion. The keyboard is high quality. It looks very cool. It does have USB C charging and an SD Reader built-in. In my opinion 14" is the sweet spot for laptops and this makes it perfect for around the home and travel use.

I would recommend this laptop for those who want to do everything, although just keep in mind gaming will be limited to low graphics settings and it will get hot. Since laptop coolers all suck, except an $80 blower model on amazon, I went with a $10 metal folding/tilting stand also on amazon. This allows it to breathe better and didnt add much to the cost. Having the laptop tilted, is around the same cooling performance as lack luster cooling pads without the noise.

If you want heavy duty gaming in particular, I would wait for the next gen GPU laptops. Although, expect to pay 3 times the price of this. 2-4k range, since the 4090 by itself cost $1600 already.

All in all, I am happy with this laptop for around the house and traveling. I do all heavy gaming on my desktop.

I am still tinkering for best performance, so if anyone has driver tips feel free to chime in. I installed the drivers from Armoury Crate and Asus website, while the Asus app and windows did all the other updates. Seems to be pretty responsive, but I wonder if could be better haha. I did not notice any difference with installing AMD gpu driver with amd software vs Asus website standalone driver without AMD software.

True that gaming laptops go bad faster than regular laptops because they get hot?

Now if you do not play any games at all, does it still get hot?
Nope, I've had an Asus ROG 17.3" since 2017 and it was open box/refurbished at the time. I have never had issues with it except bsod due to bad windows updates. I have bought upgraded thermal paste and pads 4 years ago but to this day haven't put them on 😂.

It gets HOT, don't get me wrong but it hasn't ruined the laptop itself. It has i7 6700hq and gtx1070 in it, so it was quite powerful components of it's time.

Does anyone else who has this laptop face the problem where the laptop will reboot itself almost every night while it is sleeping?
I tried everything I could find on the internet to stop this but the damn laptop always reboots. Not sure if our is a firmware issue or a bug in Windows.

I think a must on all these Ryzen powerhouse laptops is to disable Turbo Boost (or at least move to Efficient Aggressive) in the registry. It allows more juice to the GPU.

This used to happen to me.
For me it was cause of the Windows Updates, and restarting/finishing the updates or just putting the updates on pause fixed it.

Went with this instead. Costco, double ram, touchscreen, better build quality, smaller power brick.

I bought this as a refurb and it is a great laptop except the battery life. When you get yours can you give me a battery life estimate?

It just wouldn't turn on for some reason, I remember playing Forza 5 and I was thinking wow this thing is quiet and then I touched the laptop and it was extremely hot 😂. I messed around with the settings in manual mode and I played with the fan curve and there were still times where the fan wouldn't kick on and the CPU and GPU would be well in 90c+. Then the display started to act glitchy so I figured all that heat can't be good long term and returned it. I really liked the laptop aside from that.
I changed to a custom, more aggressive fan curve and it worked great. (Silent fan speed is so stupid and overrated - who cares about fan noise if you're wearing headphones)
I have the 2021 model with RTX 3060. Cost $1450 + tax, amazing how prices have decreased.
