I bought two last spring for $210 each - without heatsinks. You can thank you me for making them so much money that they decided to lower the prices
All semiconductors are dropping in price right now except for the stubborn ass Nvidia
Make sure you update the firmware on this drive. From PCGAMER. "The drives were failing by suddenly becoming locked into read-only mode which effectively makes the SSD completely unusable as it can no longer be written to. As your OS is constantly making read/write actions as part of its general process, that means your system just will not start."

Also if you plan on using this drive in your PS5, make sure you a third-party Heat sink. They're readily available on Amazon for $10-$15.

Edit: The 2TB version with Heat sink is the same price. The 1TB version with the Heat sink is $104.99.

This is excellent timing. Thank you so much. I am planning on using this with the Win11pro to run some hyperV and VMware.

I bought a WD SN850 2tb for $360 when they first released. I feel the pain every day when I see the price drop on these.

I just received mine and installed it and it had already been updated with the latest firmware. Using it with a NVMe to PCIe adapter for my older PC as a bootable drive for Windows 11 and it works great!! was getting around 550MB/s and now it's around 3,300MB/s (read and write) on an old Intel 3930K and X79 Motherboard with PCIe 3.0.

If I build a computer in about 6 or so months, is this a good deal or should I wait? The 2GB ones looks like a great price. Since I do mostly video/photo editing and business work and currently not much gaming (e.g. use Xbox for that), this looks perfect. I normally use an Intel chipset but have not determined the components yet. Graphic cards are very expensive still. I am also looking for a good case with plenty of air flow. So I have my homework yet to do.

I recently purchased the WD_BLACK 1TB SN770 NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280, Up to 5,150 MB/s - WDS100T3X0E for $59 from Amazon.

Is it worth returning for this deal for $40 more? Putting it in my daughter's PC (she mostly plays Fortnite). Will I really notice a difference going with the Samsung 980 Pro over the WD Black?

For gaming you wouldn't notice a difference from two generations ago let alone the either of these two.

Since I am putting these in a new motherboard that includes stock heat sinks, I cancelled my order for these Samsung NVMe drives and ordered two of the heatsink-less Western Digital SN850X drives since it was the same price as this and they are slightly better drives.

Same question, what adapter are you using?

That's because the American man child will pay the very last penny he has just so he can brag about gaming at a 300 frame rate that no human eye will ever detect.

They say a fool and his money are soon parted, and this country is increasingly full of fools.
Quote from aparoche :
Some people have good jobs and the money to burn. Also, those frame rates drop quickly once you turn up the resolution and graphical settings. Finally, having a higher quality system right now means that it will have a longer life before your next upgrade.

LMAOLMAO Two great comments, thanks for posting them. I think you both make excellent points. I think this country has always been full of fools in the sense that people here have been professional consumers for decades. It's capitalism, right? Buy, buy, buy. Throwaway society. Broken? Just buy another one. Savings? Retirement?? LOL!! It's more important to have the greenest lawn, the shiniest car, the biggest BBQ grill... Even if you're living paycheck to paycheck, borderline broke. BUT you're right, there are people with the disposable income. In December 2021 I dumped about $3K in to a new desktop ($1,800 of that was GPU, a moronic decision if I ever made one LMAO). And of course, a more expensive and more capable system today will remain "relevant" longer. I love comments like yours that are true, but also provide a chuckle Smilienod worship.
