it will still out perform any other 14in gaming laptop on this price
So this is both helpful and illustrates the problem with this laptop. If you have to limit the wattage that much then buy a different laptop that will give you better performance and probably run cooler. Also battery life is not anywhere near the 8-10 hours people claim it is, unless you mess around a lot and limit the computer. Also ips bleed and overall bad qc for multiple things.
It's pretty stilly to have to power limit it. Why pay extra for the power if you can't use it.

If you get this, make sure to use MANUAL Power Profile and limit to 60w total instead of 105w... for gaming, as it will get really hot too touch. Silent mode is perfect for everyday tasks etc. Great screen on this, but yes it DOES run hot. No way around it, because Asus puts way too much watts for bench-marking purposes, but that is not good for the long term.

I would just disable CPU turbo.

This is the historical low of this machine. This was 1099 around New Years and I don't think it's been that cheap since. I should have bought it back then, I was thinking it would be cheaper but it hasn't been. Ending up buying something else but kind of wish I got this one.

I think their isn't a laptop that provides this performance (even at 60w) combined with QHD bright display and at this weight and battery life. I tried to find one ...lol

Who says you can't use it? It may get hot and wear down the parts faster, but it's your device.

According to SlickDeals search, this has been on sale at this price 4 times since December. Oversupply. I wonder when this year's version comes out.

Just a note: I would stay away from used categories as this laptop has known screen and hellish heat issues. Seems to be very hit or miss. I am assuming the returned ones are not kept for a reason.

Personally, my used experience with BBuy was great until Covid. They actually understated the computers available, they now overstate. I had to return two in the last two years (both Lenovos)

Still waiting for Best Buy to drop the open box pricing on these. They were ~$100 cheaper a month or so ago.

Worth opening the box immediately (while you're at the store, if possible) and checking for dead pixels or backlight bleed...but the heat is a known issue, and one that can be remedied one or more of three ways:
  1. Disable or modify Turbo Boost (Efficient Aggressive is a nice compromise setting when plugged in)
  2. Fiddle with the ROG Armory settings to reduce wattage and/or increase fans, as someone mentioned above
  3. Use AATU if you know what you're doing to undervolt or adjust other settings.

I agree that the temps when gaming might have caused some buyers to return the g14, like with the 2020 & 2021 models...but that's not to say it's a bad machine, or that the thermals are an insurmountable problem.

Yes, I had one open-box satisfactory in my cart in January for $840 IIRC, but didn't pull the trigger since I'm hardly gaming anymore. If it comes down to $800, I might jump.

This should work on this model or the 6800s model to help with thermals. https://youtu.be/u5dUZ8oRS4s

Great laptop, and not just for gaming. I picked this up last month when they had open box "Excellent" for $863. I like it because it doesn't look like a typical gaming laptop. It's replaced a 6 year old Lenovo Yoga with a battery that would die randomly and with no warning.

I mostly use it for some graphic design and general admin work on location at my business. I don't game on the go so I leave the power brick at home and keep a much lighter 100w USBc brick on me. That said, it's hardly ever needed because the battery lasts all day.

I only recently started using it for some gaming (on a whim after about a month) and it handles everything I've tried to play on it (current favorite is Darktide via Gamepass). It gets really warm, but I have it on a stand and use an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Gaming wasn't even one of the selling points for me, but the battery life and silent operation was definitely the major reasons for purchase. That said, it plays games very well.

I've been super happy with it once I upgraded the Mediatek card with an Intel AX210. Stock Wifi and bluetooth would drop constantly before hand. Super stable now.

I did have to buy two different open box models to get a good one. The first one (the one I kept) was missing the power brick. The second had really bad light bleed. Both open box "Excellent". Support chat told me that I'd have to rebuy to get a power cord. I was just going to keep the second until I saw the light bleed. YMMV with open box, but it could very much be worth a gamble. Best Buy's return policy is pretty solid as long as you stay in the 15 day window.
