To be fair, I have an M1 with 8gb and have no trouble throwing a bunch of programming and dev work at it. I'm talking android emulators running while having multiple IDEs running and building...

I wanted to get this one, but after watching this I not so sure. Might go with m1 if I find good deal. Although, this is for laptop, I assume its same with mini.

Just 8 GB, is it 2015?
All part of their plan. That said, 8GB should be okay for most average users.

Thats not true open up some webpages and background apps up and have literally one application up and there goes 8gb
He probably should've specified 8GB on Apple Silicon.

I've been whining every step MacOS gets closer to IOS and this would imply a jump from my way better 10.14.6.
I don't want clouds syncs photodaemons or similar garbage, but I want the M1 or 2. Anyone out there have any tips on how to cope after "upgrading" to whatever number the OS is now?
Thanks!

This kept being brought up, for 99% target users for the base mini, this does not matter from day to day usage

I love my multiple Macs, so don't get me wrong, but $500 for a PC with no peripherals, no storage, and minimum ram, that can't game? Trying to find the market here…

For all those wondering 8gb on a Mac is NOTHING like 8gb on a pc. I have a used 2013 8gb macbook(because I'm poor) and I just now after 10 years felt the slowdown. My nephew gave me his "'old" 2019 Alienware 16gb, and it noticeably slower

Edit the Alienware is 32gb actually. Sorry I'm not a computer guy. It's i7 32gb 256

that's what's supposed to happen. RAM is there to be filled up. What's important is how/when your computer releases inactive processes to fill new active requests. MacOS has just always been better at that than Windows and why the majority of non-pro mac users are still fine with 8GB now.
Yes i understand i own a Mac. 8gb isn't enough especially if your going to call it for pro use

No...all the ram is not going to "fill up" just because it is there if the program doesn't need it.

Do you really think the way chrome works on Mac vs Windows is that much different? Get a windows computer with 32gb and this mac with 8gb, see how many tabs you can open before the computer slows down.

Can you post your output for `sudo smartctl -a disk0`? I'm curious to know your TBW / DUW. Thanks.

… and Microsoft is obliging by obsoleting perfectly good Windows 10 hardware with Windows 11. (Yah, security, bla, bla, bla). Windows 10 can run well on 8-10 year old hardware if it has an SSD. HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Microsoft itself (Surfaces) demanded Microsoft push new PC sales. So unlike Windows 10 that can run fine even on Windows 7 machines…

Never thought we'd dump Windows but our mobile stuff - phones and tablets - are already Apple and we have one MacBook Air M1. October 2025 (end of Win10) is coming fast and these Mac Mini M2's at $499 are looking very tempting.

Bonus 1: Loving the automatic - and 100% complete - seamless back up of all Apple devices as well as the seamless cross platform texting, internet, copy/pasting, photos, Find me, AirTags, etc…

Bonus 2: With Windows 11, Microsoft went all in with Google Android mobile integration, providing another reason for Apple mobile folks to leave Microsoft.

[EDIT:] I'm old enough to not be defensive about down flags on the anonymous Internet, but having a large number of Windows 10 machines in our home, I am sincerely interested in the specific counter arguments to my comment. Where, specifically, is the comment flawed, particularly for mainstream Internet browsing, streaming, email, etc…? Are the down flaggers gamers? I'd totally understand that but please say so.
Technically Apple is doing the same thing. Anyone with a Mac that has Intel hardware inside must update to the M1 or M2 because they will not support it any more when they can keep the OS compatable with the Intel hardware.

As of February 2023, Windows holds 57.37% of the desktop OS market in the US, macOS holds 29.62% and Chrome OS holds 7.47%. Linux holds 2.55%, whereas other miscellaneous desktop operating systems hold 2.97%. Apple really wants to step up the game.
Wow… I wasn't aware they were up that high. As a lifelong Apple user… I was used to them always having around 7%. And I always wondered what impact the success and dominance of the iPhone would have on that.

Unfortunately I am in this camp. I upgraded to a new Mini just months before they announced the M1 switch. I was very disappointed. I would have already jumped on a new m2 Mini since they are not too pricey, but since the SSD and Ram are integrated can't get one of these.

For those of us that need more of an average PC then a gaming rig most of the time. I bought one because my gaming rig idles around 400w and I pay around 60-70 cents/kwh. Im finding myself needing to keep a pc on for 12-13 hours a day but with minimal usage.

Say what you want but these Apple Macs retain their value. Just sold a 2018 Mac mini for 300.

Can't say the same about windows computers they are basically landfill waste after a couple years
