Make sure not to select the cheaper $80 option. Seller has 2 ratings and is based in China. Seller's contact name is "pingdingshanmudiexinshangmaoyouxiangon" ?? Lol. Looks like a fly-by-night front. I've wasted lots of time with these sellers. Last time I ordered a $99 i5 CPU from this marketplace seller on Walmart, it took me over 2 months to get my money back after never receiving my CPU.

Not bad. It's still a capable chip paired with a 6600 or 6650XT.

Ugh, wish this was the 5600. Only seen that drop to 99 once or twice and never again...

Go to AliExpress. It's about $100 without a cooler. But a $20 Thermalright Assassin 120 is pretty good.

Support up to 3200Mhz DDR4 I remember. Don't waste money on 3600 or above

Edit: looks like you can still OC but official states 3200 Max

Is the 12100f a better buy at the same price?

I guess it may depend on your use-case, the 5500 has 50% more cores and is about a third faster for multi-threaded loads, but the 12100f gets somewhat higher single core benchmarks according to the much derided passmark [cpubenchmark.net] scores.
And the AM4 boards start a little lower [pcpartpicker.com] than the Intel LGA1700 ones.

For gaming it probably is, for multi-tasking it's not.

Probably only good until the next version of windows Smilie. I have a ryzen 3 and it can't run windows 11.

Ram speeds are usually what your mobo can support. Not what the cpu specs say. 🤷 ♂️

Well, as far as I know CPU memory controller matters, not only the MB

This CPU rates very high on the performance per dollar scale:

Yup! Have the 5500 paired with a 6900XT and can play modern latest AAA games on Ultra level

Technically speaking, 3600 c16 is better to have infinite fabric run at native 1800mhz 1:1. The 3200 memory is generally the baseline, but 3600 remains the sweet spot for Ryzen 5000 series. And yes depends on your motherboard and the memory maker you use for compatibility.
