I ended up buying the Spectre X360 16 inch (not ideal) open box excellent for $924 with a i7 12700h. Better Processor, worse ram, worse storage, no dedicated graphics but it was a touch screen with full aluminum case and better battery life. If you're looking to game, definitely get this one. If you're looking for longer battery life and a full metal case I'd consider the 16 inch Spectre X360 if you can find it open box excellent right now. I think you can't go wrong with either. I'm done buying budget laptops though. My Dell Inspiron 5515 is amazing on specs but the build quality was so poor that I can't even use it as a laptop anymore (touchpad issue). That wasn't even a budget laptop (msrp) but I got it for $620 with a 5700u, 1TB SSD and 16gb of ram so it ended up being a bargain... Either way, not worth it if you can't use it as intended. Wish I had just spent the extra money back then.

I will say, I think these manufacturers and retailers know something is coming. These deals are insanity. Especially with inflation to see so many top-tier laptops at low prices is kind of worrisome.

I had this and had issues with thermal throttleing, it would randomly shutdown. The back lit keys are not really good for daytime as the color of the keys is white, so illuminating them washed them out. I worked better when I turned it off. The screen is the seller here, it is beautiful and near oled black levels. The size is great if you need a portable laptop. I added 32 gb to it with no issue but ended up having to return it because it would overheat and reboot. It has a vapor chamber and liquid metal so it could have been a bad paste job but I was not willing to repaste. I ended up getting a Acer Helios 300 with 12700H and 3070ti for the same price. It was too bad too, My last Asus laptop was fantastic.

i have been researching this
all DDR5 are dual channel internally, so u get 40gb dual channel if u stuff a 32gb in
So the old way of everything had to be matched sticks, speed, size doesn't matter in DDR5?

Wow, that's awesome.

How would this be for a computer science student who still wants to game occasionally?

I purchased this 8 months ago for $1400. No regrets. It's the beefiest of my gaming laptops to date that doesn't break the bank. This is a steal and no brainer for anyone looking to get something portable and performs well. You might have to tweak it a bit to get better temps and battery life but reddit's ZephyrusG14 community is a heap of resources with awesome people.

Excellent spec-wise. You may want a laptop with a number pad for coding though. You can always get an external keyboard and mouse (highly recommended if using any laptop for work)

Glad I waited to buy it just last week so I was still within the 15 day return period for a price match.

Price match was easy this morning over chat. Just needed to confirm Name and Phone Number. They could bring up the sale and credit it without any questions. Updated receipt with credit was emailed within seconds.

How is the build quality on this laptop? I'm trying to decide if I should get this or a 16 inch Spectre X360

Obviously that can't game but this might be able to game a little. I have a relatively new laptop but the TouchPad is unusable, how is it on this one?
This one is excellent. I bought the previous year model with the RTX 3060, and it has been with me to several countries. Pound for pound, you won't find a more powerful laptop.

Can you please explain how it's false? The base line 16 MacBook pro M2 will destroy $4000 windows laptop when it comes video editing the only exception is if that windows machine is plugged if it's on battery it will loose 50% of its power plus it will eat the battery like crazy. Yes gaming is not apple thing at least not for now but video editing is gor apple hands down.
please support your claim before you try to ask others for proof that it's false

I bought one for $100 more and I have no regrets. I did take advantage of a previous open box deal from Bestbuy but returned it because it would tick loudly under load. The one I bought new didn't have any issues at all and I really love the laptop.

With the right tweaks it can still have great performance at 80°C or less on CPU and around 70°C for GPU.

Thanks for the info!!
Make sure the RAM stick you get is dual rank, though. Most should be, but I was looking at crucial.com, and they did also have a 1r 32GB stick there.
