New Mac arch uses unified memory, ram is on the silicon itself if I am not mistaken

M2 Pro Mac mini is also $200 off for $1099. Great deal if you need the extra ram, storage, GPU.

Sorry for my ignorance, do I need an apple monitor to use with this hd? I'm about to bite the bullet and buy a new laptop or pc and it's been so long I'm feeling kind of lost.

No. It's got a HDMI port, so any modern monitor (or TV) will work. Or there are adapters available if you have an old monitor without HDMI.

Why can't Apple just drop the price on these? If they did then I can use my EDU discount and get this for $400 or start modifying from that price point.
Maybe I'm imagining this, but won't Best Buy price match? If so, will they do the education discount? Maybe one but not both?

On the silicon itself? You should probably not be commenting on anything remotely technical, at least for a few years until your knowledge grows.

The ram is soldered to the motherboard, same as everything else in this computer. Silicon is what the chips are made of: ram, processor, wifi, power modulation, etc etc

I wonder when these will finally get 16gb ram minimum.

Someone will comment - well a entry level user doesn't need that.

But then I say - they also do not need the speed of am M2 nor even an M1.

Eventually they need to upgrade the ram and storage sizes for the base models.
What do you suggest for the entry level user who wants a mac then?

This is fine for 95% of people. Most PC users are used to overbuying hardware because they can. That doesn't mean its actually needed.

I ordered one at the end of March that still hasn't even shipped so not sure how Amazon keeps bringing these back for order.

Doesn't seem like they actually have stock.

Its obviously a joke. These machines are appliances, and you aren't upgrading anything in them because Apple charges 10x the cost to upgrade any component and that is where they make all their margin. They aren't making squat on these (comparatively).

BTW the RAM is not on the die, it uses UMA which means the video and compute RAM are the same in a very fast bus but it is DDR5 memory. The term is SiP which is system in a package, however I get what you are saying and this is one os Apple's many marketing terms.

I guess one can argue its the same silicone, but regardless you aren't upgrading it.
Lol sheep are downvoting for stating technical facts 😭😭

Would this be good for photo editing using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro for video editing?
It will run, but for videos or big photos you really want either 16GB or 24GB RAM. The M2 non-Pro will handle the work just fine.

Why doesn't a 2 trillion $$ company sell their product cheaper, you ask? If they did then they wouldn't be a 2 trillion $$ company.
