But where are the $20-$30 mb's. I just cant seem to justify more than that on a am4 MB now that ddr5 is getting to the right price. I have a 1600 on my desk that reminds me I should find it a home.

Good chip for casual players and net watchers. PCIe 3.0 almost any motherboard Bios can be upgraded to use the 5000 series now.

Some MBs only allow you to upgrade the bios when there is a working, supported CPU for the current bios version. Friendly reminder to anyone reading, update your bios firmware in case you need to replace a dead CPU or plan to upgrade at any point in the future.

Great performing CPU for the dollar! I just built a system with this in December, but paid about $110 for it. It does very well with games, and with compressing video files in Handbrake.

I don't know if you are kidding, but laptops are almost universally unupgradeable minus ram and ssd (and many laptops don't even allow you to do that anymore).

My Core 2 Duo laptop from 2009 was one of the last CPU-upgradeable laptops. Swapped out the P8700 for a E8335.

I thought that there were some recent laptops they used desktop chips in them. Certainly not the mainstream by any means though! I doubt you'd be putting a budget CPU in one though!

The latest laptop that I've got with a replaceable cpu is a decade old Dell Precision M6700, sporting an Ivy Bridge era CPU.

This isn't what I was thinking of, but there is a laptop with an intel desktop cpu:

According to Steam user profiles only around 10% of users have 8 core cpu.
70% of users have 2-6 cores - most of them probably not PCIe 4.0
Enthusiasts can think they will be effed if they dont have current specs, but truth is most gamers are chugging along on "good enough" units.
Game publishers know all this and will not be selling games optimized for most current high-end specs.
