You know that's funny because as I was being denied by Best Buy on live chat (understandable, I'm outside the window), I was also Googling - AMEX price protection. I remember having it on the card years ago and I know they took out that benefit, but still had hope.
Ah I tried... twice. Same response.
Yeah sadly been more than five years or so (depending on card) since the great credit card feature axing that ended price matching. Saved so many thousands back then, it was handy and a necessity for Slickdealers.
Best Buy in Hawthorne's internal system is showing the speakers at $879. I had bought 2 pairs this morning. They refunded me the difference from $1199 at customer service desk in person. YMMV.

I have not the capability to comprehend how a pair of bookshelf speakers might sound good enough to justify costing $2,200 ... unless they had an ounce of 24k gold wire in them.
you will have a room full of mids with very limited low with two centers... not ideal for music
that would be a waste. at that point, even Q350 could do better stereo.
pay attention to specs, look at the crossovers and driver ranges
I have LS50's (original) and they're great. I mostly listen at low levels, but I do turn it up a bit now and then and that's when the 50's disappoint.
I'm expecting the R3's to fix that.
I had a pair of KEF Reference One's for many years and should never have sold them.
Based on what? They have speakers are many price points, including a model that's regularly on sale for under $500
They don't. At low levels they're not engaging and or have dynamics. I own R3's. I actually own MANY bookshelves. The ones I find that play with nice dynamics at low volumes are Martin Logan Motion 35 bookshelves
I went to go pick up a pair of open box - good R7s for 1,450. There was no box, dents on one cone, and no grilles.
I didn't accept them. I am going to try another store that has them listed as "excellent, no box". If it has the feet, no damage, and the grilles I'll take them no box for 1550.
i have a sub $500 5.1 yamaha avr, is it worth to pair it with these and use them as 2.1s with a sub for music
Always a good idea to upgrade speakers, it's where most of your budget should go. While your AVR will ultimately disappoint (98% of them suck with music), you'll have awesome speakers for when you get a real amp. These are really really good speakers.

No dents or scratches, just no box.
I bought two under the $650 + tax deal ($700) and instead of returning, thought I'd offer it here.
