As much as I want this, I already have the LG 42" C2. The G9 has great reviews though!

It never really was with the qdoled tbh, it is less visible than LG panels, but I would recommend u wait for the 2nd gen qdoled panels early next year before jumping on the train. Those have a totally different layout which would literally "kill" any text fringing.

It got better with time and either I've mentally looked past it, or there's been some improvement in software trickery since I received it in late June.

I can add that it the size and curve works great with an LG 55" where the 1800R width matches perfectly. My setup [discordapp.com] for reference.

thanks for the tip, I can wait a few months if it's going to fix that issue. I was looking at one of those LG IPS Ultrawides as a possible alternative, but they're all back up to launch price it seems.

I use it for work and honestly haven't even booted up any games on it yet (really feeling my age here). My job has me working in spreadsheets or powerpoint like ninety percent of my workday.

It was a mild bother at first, but I installed BetterClearTypeTuner and then MacType -- both fixed the issue for me in a different way, so try each and take your pick. I would describe the text now as "fine." I'm sure it could be better, and I'm a pretty picky guy so I see little things that annoy me, but it's totally satisfactory for me to work eight hours a day looking at the text.

Thanks - that's really helpful. I'm thinking of taking the plunge. Do you use Picture By Picture or anything like that? I'm curious how I'll manage application windows on a screen that massive.

If you're talking about the changes to the sub pixel layout, these have already been implemented - i.e. the g9 is the second gen oled panel. https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawid...for_those/

Whoops, meant to reply to other comment about 2nd gen changes.

I have a docked work laptop and a desktop tower pc -- the former is connected to the monitor using HDMI, the latter using DisplayPort (there is only one of each input, which i'm declaring to be a negative of this monitor. wish there were more inputs). The way to set up Picture-By-Picture is kind of obfuscated in the menus, but once you set it up once, the configuration is saved, and works very nicely. My mouse and keyboard are logitech wireless with their little unifying dongle, so there's just one usb dongle in each pc, and you tap a button to switch device on the m/kb, it's perfect for having them side-by-side. (keyboard is MX Keys, mouse is MX Master 3). But most of the time i just have one pc or another occupying the whole screen.

My work laptop is on Windows 11 and my desktop is on Windows 7. As much as I dislike 11, one really neat feature (this may be present on 10, I don't know) is if you hit win+z or hover over a window's maximize button, a little flyout menu [microsoft.com] appears showing you different portions of the screen you can tile the current window to, with 6 pre-set tiled layouts. For example, if I hit win+z - 6 - 2, the current window will snap to a 2560x1440 size in the center of the screen, with a half-width free spot (1280x1440) on either side. So, big spreadsheet in the middle, narrow web browser on the left, narrow reference document on the right, you get the idea. It's nifty and really speeds things up.
