Recently went from an Apple TV to a Nvidia Shield because my kids said the apple was super laggy.

So far, they're loving the Shield again.

I like how there are 2 pages of debate about this device but nobody mentions the 4K@60fps cloud streaming.

I am a big fan of the cloud streaming service "GeForce Now" and already have 6 months paid of the ultimate subscription at full price. I just bought a 4K TV and an Nvidia Shield TV Pro so that I can stream my Steam and Epic games and Xbox PC Gamepass library from the comfort of my bedroom using a gamepad. This is the only device that will allow 4k @ 60 fps right now (other than a computer that would cost twice as much)

For this reason alone it is worth $170 to me not to mention the plethora of other cool stuff it can do (like not having to use my TVs laggy/sluggish OS for streaming, and the cool HTPC features it has as well)

If you like to stress and not know when a fix will be coming (and it's been about 3 they've been working on the latest problems introduced) then this is a good machine and very capable of being the best streaming box out there. Oh yeah lastly there's a problem where it floods the storage with junk so all of the space is eaten up in a day or so and it will constantly flash a massive box saying storage almost full on top of anything you're doing ever 30 seconds, I think it's great but I just wanted to warn people of what they might be getting into before they purchase it. Go look at the nvidia forums for the shield before purchasing.

1.16 Trillion dollar company has these issues...

I dont understand the hate on something just because its a couple years old, when it's still clearly the best thing out there. There's been no significant changes in NEEDS since then. There's no compelling feature that has come out since release that requires newer hardware. There is nothing that the fire cube can do that this cant, while there is plenty the shield can do that the fire cube cant. FACTS.

it has its purposes but agree with most that this is just overpriced, now.

it's highly annoying you can't use some basic streaming apps (i.e. hulu) without it erroring out literally 100% of the time. you shouldn't have to use this simply as a niche product when it should be handling simple sh*t, too

Most modern tvs will have those apps available for you to add. If not, you can buy a cheap Chromecast stick or amazon stick for under $20. Silly people spend $200 when they can do the same thing with $20
