10s+ wait time on excel, I only had like 2000+ rows
Given that the M2 is only 20% faster, to me that sounds like an Excel problem, if it was that bad.

I've been using my M1 8/256 for 2 years now with 0 lag. I read a story on Reddit the other day about someone who was having lag, and they posted their activity monitor to 40GB or ram swap from using Microsoft Edge with like 20 tabs..... If you use it like a normal computer, you'll be fine. I run Chrome with 5-6 tabs, Discord, Spotify and I have 0 issues. I have also been able to play any game I've tried (not too many, but Hearthstone, Palia, Stardew, etc...)

Microsoft sucks at macOS development, which shouldn't surprise anyone. If i have a youtube video playing and I just simply launch Excel there is a slight delay in the youtube video for a brief second. No other program does this, including adobe creative suite apps.
This is on an M1 Pro 16".

256 GB SSD is just a crime. $300 to upgrade to 512 GB is highway robbery. macOS itself requires 25GB free space minimum, when you throw in apps and required files your looking at 50 GB+ taken up just to set up your laptop.

Sure, but keep in mind the 256GB M2 machines have only one SSD chip, so any RAM swap is actually going to be significantly slower than on the 256GB M1 machines (which had two SSD chips). For that reason it is highly recommended to upgrade either the RAM or SSD (or both) so that this potential "bottleneck" is avoided. Of course, the average consumer or college student likely wouldn't notice the difference.

I'm waiting for M3, 16GB, and 512GB for $1000. It may be 2 years from now, but I'm waiting nonetheless Big Grin

Just bought the M1 couple days ago from Best Buy. Is this a better deal? Should I return it?
Depend on much you paid for m1. If you paid under $700. M1 is a better deal. Unless your power user most people really don't need the the m2. If you are power user, m2 is prob better

Nice deal for price, but the M1 Macbook Air is $749-$799 and the 256GB SSD is twice as fast as the M2 265GB SSD and that was a big complain when it came out.

to be fair, I work in excel every day and it works just fine. There are just some efficiencies that other developers have introduced to their apps whereas you can tell microsoft isn't trying to put their best work into a mac version of their popular software and steal share away from their core service.

And your phone probably cost more.

A 256gb iPhone Pro Max is $1199 MSRP for reference.

That also depends on conditional or other formatting of the cells and if the cells are equations or values
