Nice early BF deal. Was just eyeing this model at BestBuy/Costco last week when they were on sale for $1,049. Decided to wait. Now that I know the price will indeed drop, I might see if there will be a deal on the 16GB/512GB version as we get closer to BF. -Edit- I'm a dumb dumb who can't read. This is the Air. I had been eyeing the Pro for the price mentioned above. The wait continues!
A good price for a great computer. I will say I grabbed an 8GB one like this first and while I was happy with it I was soon hitting swap memory fairly regularly.
As far as I could ever tell that didn't really affect my day to day usage at all but I opted to return it for a 16GB version so that it is more capable longer into the future because otherwise I absolutely love this machine and don't see needing to upgrade for a long time.
Microsoft sucks at macOS development, which shouldn't surprise anyone. If i have a youtube video playing and I just simply launch Excel there is a slight delay in the youtube video for a brief second. No other program does this, including adobe creative suite apps.
This is on an M1 Pro 16".
This 100%. I suspect they are using archaic thinking and handicapping the program on Macs in an effort to push people to use Windows/PC.
My portable drive has 4 times more storage than your phone. What's your point?
Just a comparison for perspective, that my phone has more storage then this $900 computer. Based on my experience people generally expect their computer to have more storage than their phone. You don't think it's a negative this only has 256gb non expandable?
Needed a computer for work (since we're moving back into office) and was debating between the mac mini or laptop. End up pulling the trigger after contemplating about 8gb ram, but realized that I have used MBP & MBA Intel 4gb for work for the past 10+ years and it has been ok. Excel, PDF, dropbox, work email, and a couple social media tabs open (FB, personal email, youtube)... it was able to run everything at once pretty nicely.
Currently have an iMac M1 16/512 for my home office and MBP M1Pro 16/512 for on the go. I think the M2 8/256 should be fine for work since we mostly have the cloud storage to store work related information. Ending up purchasing two (also for my SO) of this. We'll test it out before the return window expires.

A 256gb iPhone Pro Max is $1199 MSRP for reference.
But the bigger issue is the ram. One can always get cheap external storage.
