Nonsense. Normal people who just use a computer don't backup data but anyone needing 18tbs knows how things work.

I would get this personally. While I don't subscribe to Seagate all being garbage, these WD that I've gotten have all been Helioseal drives (based on HGST designs) and have been cool, quiet, and fast. The initial ones were PWDIS which meant you had to tape the pin, cut it, or use an adapter, but the latest ones haven't been PWDIS so no issues.

What's the quantity limit? I don't want them canceling my orders like last year.

What is the diff bw Elements and Easy store? I got 20 GB for $300 from Amazon prime day but this seems like a better deal unless it's an inferior product as compared to elements

Thanks.

Where can you buy the 14TB Seagate expansion desktop for $150?
Costco has this deal coming up next week I believe.

I've realized after getting a NAS that I don't take my backups nearly as seriously as a lot of people. I primarily just use my NAS for entertainment, along with pictures and school stuff. I guess I just don't have enough sensitive data to justify the effort. Isn't all of what you described super expensive?
Rebuilding my virtualized TrueNAS server and realized how little space I actually was using. I back everything up to a 20TB mirror and it was barely half full. It has me rethinking my need for a four bay NAS when I could just have the surveillance data stored there instead of messing with a separate appliance. Push comes to shove I'll could just throw together some smaller drives and set up a separate machine just for that,

Good price per terrabyte, but lack of an on/off switch will make me wait for another model.

Iirc, the only difference is the enclosure. One is a Best Buy exclusive, and the warranty may be different, but the drives inside seem to be the same.

These drives sleep/turn off when not used around 10 minutes or so. They are an easy way to add additional storage to a Plex Media Server if you are not anal/obsessed backing everything up via Raid arrays or what have you.

Just connect the drive to a USB port and done; more storage for classics like Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp [youtube.com]. God forbid such important data is not backed up via an overpriced godlike Synology NAS laugh out loud/joke

How are folks transferring data from current NAS drives when upgrading to bigger drives? I assume from external backups but in my situation, I don't have enough external backup/drive to fit all the data I have in my NAS.

Yea, I had a 8tb originally in plex server (old dell OptiPlex 5040 i7-6700) at the start, upgraded to a 12tb, and used the 8 as a backup. Now with only a tb free on the 12tb it's time to upgrade again. If only I bought two 20tbs from the beginning.... oh well, helping to fuel consumerism.

Maybe I'll give away the 8tb with a reduced plex library.

thanks op just picked one up. I've been terrified of losing my plex library, but too cheap to buy another hdd. I'll probably just keep it sealed in box and wait to see if anything cheaper drops during BF.

Any Best Buy cash back/discount deals for Chase Freedom cards specifically? I have one coming next week.
