Resolution was incorrectly listed at first, now corrected. 1900x1200 so FHD 16:10 aspect.
8GB is soldered. Answered by an owner in the Q&A.

The 16:10 aspect is the attractive part for me if I didn't have a laptop already.
This would be perfect for at home work (productivity; web suring) as oppose to portability.
I have two Dell 24" 16:10 monitors that does the trick for me. Hardly see 16:10 these days.

That's nice, but per eBay's listing, and per BB it is not backlit. ASUS does state that is optional. I am gonna go with never say always and trust the owner, sellers, and mfg on this one as it is not standard.
https://www.asus.com/us/laptops/f...20optional [asus.com].
If you still won't edit, that is not being responsible to your fellow SDers. I put this info in the wiki, in case you won't make the needed correction.
Backlit kbd is a requirement for me to consider. So it is important.
Yes sir, updated as non-backlit, and thanks for the info!

Bought an open-box of this recently. Not backlit. Returned it because wanted a dedicated gfx card. Seemed good for a budget laptop. Great that it has a good H processor.

Seems like a good buy. Only potential caveat I can see is that I don't find "IPS" anywhere. The ASUS product page doesn't list it, and the newegg product page says IPS-Level display. Luckily, it's probably not as hard to return when buying from BB if it doesn't work out.
Is it difficult to return to BB?

No. It's either 14 or 30 days. And no restocking fee listed for laptops. Just try not to damage/scratch it. Smilie

How does this Processor compare to newer generations (in regards to this price point). Looking for something to do school work, watch videos, etc. Wanting to spend $550 max.

Will I be happy with this laptop in regards to power consumption, battery life, etc? (I assume performance wise this will be overkill for what I do)

Also does this laptop run hot or have bad battery life with the 5800HS?

My last two laptops were 15.6" Asus. Fully featured with IPS touch displays. Real nice for the price…but will not buy Asus again. Displays on both machines became flaky after about 2 years. Same problem, laptop would act like the lid had been closed and go blank. Figured it was in the wiring harness that snakes thru the hinges but repair shop couldn't find it. Asus provided a preliminary estimate of $350 which was a non-starter. Switched LG Gram early last year and couldn't be more pleased.

So, just to clarify:

1) is the SSD upgradable (aka slot vs soldered)
2) Is the max memory 16GB or 24GB?

Thanks
You can add a 32GB memory module to the available slot and the system will recognize the additional RAM. With newer systems running DDR4 memory, the memory works in "Flex Mode". This allows asymmetrical memory (different size modules) to be used. The caveat is that it will only run dual channel up to whatever the lowest module's capacity is, then the remaining RAM will run in single channel mode.So for this laptop with 8GB of soldered RAM, if you were to add 32GB of additional RAM, the first 8GB would run in dual channel (double the bandwidth, half the latency), while the remaining 24GB would run in single channel mode. This is still better than page filing where it extends memory by using storage, but most users won't need more than 16GB for everyday tasks, so adding an 8GB module should suffice. Still with memory being relatively cheap nowadays, I'd probably get a bigger RAM module. It should also go without saying that you should match all the other specs (speed, etc.) as much as possible of the RAM you are adding to whatever is already on board.

4gb or 8gb soldered?
8gb soldered, if you notice the description in OP description it say 8gb on board, thats what it means.
