A very good deal. But seems no PD charging/DisplayPort via USB-C.
Also available for the same price from Best Buy via eBay [ebay.com]

Backlit keyboards should be standard - Agreed.

In this particular case, no backlit keyboard DOES NOT kill the deal (IMO).

Specs-wise, YES. But if she wants to carry it around, you may need to look for smaller 14" model.
This is 4.14 lbs.

Also, be aware of the charger. I had a vivobook in my office from Walmart that a client purchased, and the charger was just a single brick, that plugged into the wall. The cord was just 1 single cord in the charger.

The charger felt A LOT shorter than say an HP charger that has the detachable cord that plugs into the wall and plugs into the power brick, and then the other cord that goes to the laptop

I would make sure she is OK with a keyboard with no backlighting. Late nights studying in dim light might make it difficult to use.

I didn't think about that. Thank you. She does bring it to school.

New? No. Maybe if you are willing to spend $200 more, then yes for sure.

However if budget is paramount, you'd be better off finding open box at best buy. They have so many better models at prices very close to this, open box of course
Which laptop models are better around the $380 price that you know of? Most of the really good discounts are always "Unavailable nearby" and none for shipping.

Does anyone know if this can take an additional hard drive with a ribbon cable like the Vivobook 14 and 15s could?

No charging over usb c is a deal breaker for me. But at this price point guess you can't complain.

Review for anyone interested.

Sure. But, the extra screen real estate is easier on the eyes. My son loves his 16" laptop we got him for high school this year. No complaints from him about the weight.

Yes, I agreed. 16" screen is good for long usage even without connecting to a external mon.
I am using a 13.3" Thinkpad daily, woking with large spreadsheets……You should know what that feel.

Portability vs larger screen, really depends on user preference and needs.
This one is a very good desktop replacement which you could still carry around.

I agree, these kinda suggestions - "They have so many better models at prices very close to this" - are patently untrue. Even if you discount entirely the fact that something might be going on with them - what you might find is higher (better build) models but those are all so old that the processers seems to be laughably bad in all benchmarks. It's a more that YMMV, it's a lucky casino draw

What is the cheapest price point of an equivalent laptop, but with 14"-15" screen and usb-c charging?

Yes, plus the relatively low cost might help ease the pain should it ever be stolen or broken, not an uncommon occurrence in a college setting. Baby tears vs. a gusher if you spent 2-3 times this amount, which is easy to do.

If your daughter is a high school senior and you plan to buy a laptop this summer or fall for when she begins college, it may make sense to skip this and wait for another killer deal. This won't be the only bargain available in the next 5-6 months. In fact, in the last seven days, the price for this exact unit has been $420, $750, and $380. I bought one last week online at the bargain price of $420 thinking it was a one time opportunity. A few days later I stopped at a local store to see it in person (vs pictures on a website). The price went back up to $750. Two days later, it dropped to $380. Go figure…

Luckily for me, I have until today to pick up my online order at $420. My plan is to let it die and just buy at the current lower price. I was told that Best Buy has a 14 day return policy. Should the price drop again, you can ask for a credit or simply return and rebuy.

Are we sure it can only be upgraded to 16gb ram?
I added a 16GB SODIMM stick to make it 24 Gb. As far as dual channel I'm not sure to what amount it goes to.
