For an extra $100, it definitely is worth it for the M3 Air.

You get dual monitor support, a faster processor, better read/write speeds on a base model over the M2 Air, faster Wi-Fi, and better mics.

Think about it over the life of the laptop, $100 isn't as much over the course of 5-7 years. If you can swing it, I would spend the extra $100.
Agreed.

Why apple is dropping prices this low, I have to say economy is changing... Demand is slowing

No. Macs do not have some magic that makes 8gb good. In fact, Macs allocating system memory to the GPU means even less ram is available.

8gb is insane in a world where normal cell phones have that. 16gb has been the new standard for many years. 32gb is the new power user desktop standard.

It's called pricing strategy. It's keeps the base model cheap, so that normal people can get a cheaper laptop. Things like the 700$ MacBook Air m1 would not be possible if not for this pricing strategy.

And again, I can already tell you never used a Mac. Compare a 8gb windows laptop and 8gb MacBook Air, and the MacBook Air would smoke the windows laptop in everyway

Waiting for $750 on this. Would be worth $850 with 16GB RAM perhaps.

$899 at Apple Edu wait for back to school $150 gift card. 3% back with Apple Card. Alternatively buy iTunes gift cards from certain vendors that sell for 10% discount to get even more saving.

I own both and M3 is definitely not worth a penny extra over M2

People who are doing the level of work that require dual external should just get a pro. On M3 air it gets really hot when driving dual displays and you have to keep lid closed that keep more heat internally, at the same time losing access to the keyboard and trackpad. And now you don't have any port for an external SSD or adapter.

Plus with dynamic caching and unified memory to drive two external 4k you definitely want 16gb, and you just lost all your c ports so you want 512gb to avoid needing storage but have no port to connect external drive.

So now you are looking at $1399, $550 more than base M2, to have any meaningful quality of life improvement.

And M3 is not future proofing anything. It only has about a quarter of the MINIMUM teraflops of neural processing required to run AI natively. Next gen windows laptops are going to have 5x of the M3's NPU as standard. The M3 won't be best AI anything it's going to be severely gimped, you can expect to see huge M-series NPU upgrade coming in next 1-2 years.

So basically, to justify getting a m3 base for $100 more because you are spreading it across x years because it's more "future proof" is the dumbest advice I've seen. They'll triple NPU to support native ferret, rid the notch, and add Dynamic Island and Face ID and instantly make this generation of Mac's obsolete. Those features are coming in 2-3 years max judging by the rate people stick to the older gen Mac's because lack of upgrade with the M3 models.

I was able to get one open box today for $794 with no tax (New Hampshire) and trade in my old M1 MacBook Pro 13.3" for $585 trade in. I was gonna sell it on eBay but I actually made out with more from Best Buy surprisingly. Altogether I'm only paying a tad over $200.

Sure, 8GB may be enough for some people today, but it isn't enough for others, and the real issue is that it doesn't future proof the purchase. Even today, a small number of open apps will push an 8GB Mac to use disk swap continuously which is slower and will degrade the storage quicker. All the same, this is a beast of a machine for $850.
I am one of those people who feels it's enough for my usage, but I do agree that Apple needs to step it up.

This guy _gets it_.

"Futureproofing" was made by Apple's (Microsoft's, etc.) marketing department. There's no such thing. Get what you need now, sell it off in a few years when you want or need something different. Futureproofing is a myth - something better will always come out next year that's faster, cheaper, or just 'better'.

Save your money.

The folks that spent thousands "futureproofing" the 2019 MBP models (ie the last Intel models) don't feel so good these days...

I was looking for new computers. And is Woot safe? I have never heard of it before.

Woot is basically Amazon. They sell stuff that AMZ can't get rid of, or open box stuff at decent deals.

Same. Either it's a tall tale, or it's not an Apple product. Asus/Gigabyte sometimes won't warranty open box stuff, for instance.
