My fear is this language...I don't want to spend $50+ on shipping charges if I need to return...but the $550 price is so tempting.

Didn't see that. Dirac better be a game changer haha.

The problem with this receiver is that it seems like half the people experience annoying glitches...as a result it seems there is a high chance for a return. I am still on the fence whether to risk the $50+ or hold off for something better.
Just got mine about a week ago. It does not get hot at all. I can go and touch the unit, and it's just slightly above room temp.
How do you like it? Any issues so far?

I saw an open box for the same 1080 at BB for $380. I am assuming no warranty, but is more power and preouts worth it over direc? Is the Yamaha more reliable?
That's what I'm wondering too! Hope someone here can weigh in. $380 new is a good price I'd think.
The remote won't work unless I'm standing directly in front of it. I need to find some batteries to determine if it's just weak batteries or week IR. The Onkyo controller app works really well so you can control it that way. Also if you're into gaming you need to go into hdmi settings and change everything to 4k enhanced or 8k enhanced if it let's you. This allows you to game 4k120hz. Dirac makes a huge difference in audio quality. I'd say it's worth it.
Additionally, here's a quote from an article comparing the various Dirac versions. The following is a description of the Dirac found in the RZ50 and 7100:

In the meantime, I've emailed Dirac to help clear up the confusion, because there are some people out there that are clearly confused.
LA Art thank you for clarifying with Dirac, hopefully clearing up once and for all this confusion on whether Dirac Live offers THEIR bass management/integration! 🙏🏼
You should post this in all these Dirac Live receiver deals with that video!
According to Dirac Support:
"Yes, standard Dirac Live has always corrected the subwoofer response, taking advantage of the AVR's Bass Management."
Concerning the NR7100, I would recommend this even less than the RZ50 since it has no pre outs and can't overcome the "stealth" protection under 4 ohm loads. Hopefully, those of you who already bought are mating this receiver w/8 ohm nominal speakers!

Keep in mind you're talking about different topics and combining them.
How Dirac works is universal.
Option of license(s) doesn't change how they work.
You have pre and post adjustments, that has nothing to do on how either Dirac RC works.
Now how to use it properly and understanding adjustments is a whole other topic, definitely a learning curve!
Just in here you have people claiming DL includes DLBC, and or it does with one sub, Dirac works different per brand!
Thats the reason you have a 1000 pages and debates, this site is no exception!
The RZ50 has the same "stealth" issue with 4 & 6 ohms, the preouts do not really correct the issue.
