Dirac when not fettered can be really great, but I hate their business model, esp. the non-portable licenses and inconsistent availability of features. Selling high end room EQ with a big void that can't be filled? Silly, and bad for users.

Onkyo NR7100. I opted for that deal vs the LX305 for the ability to set individual crossovers alone.

The 305 and the 505 don't have the option for dirac live bass. Every receiver model with dirac has it's own dirac. You can't buy a dirac live bass because they never made one for the 305, 505.
Actually you're wrong. You can get direct bass control for the 305 just as I did. You might want to research more before you comment.

I own the VSX-LX303 and trying to decide if this is worth upgrading. Any thoughts on that? The Dirac seems to be the only major difference but I've been wanting to try that.

I am torn between this, or hope that the LX505 comes back at $650. Don't want to have regrets for only $130...

I agree with him but since you have researched it why not help others out and show us how you added DLBC to the 305?
At the very least should be easy to take a snap shot of the screen and post it?

Well I did research it.- a while ago and now- It's available to higher end receivers as a payment add on. I've looked all over the internet. Example (audio science review): "Since the RZ50 and LX505 do not support DLBC (for now if ever) you cannot set the crossovers via Dirac."

Did you pay extra money to add this on? The lx305 and lx505 only come with dirac live built in. They weren't planning on offering dlbc on them even if you wanted to pay for an extra add on.

Well it will be again. If it was that price before it will be that price (or lower) again. Hold the line.

I had the same receiver. I upgraded to the onkyo 7100 for dirac and the extra speaker crossover settings. At these prices I think it's a great deal. To me, it sounds so much better with klipsch rp speakers @ 5.1.4. I plan to get umik-1mic to see if I can get an even better dirac tune. 🤓

A denon or marantz may cost 2 times as much after purchasing dirac. There is cool audyssey one calibrations out, so they may not even need it. I would like to go this route but much more $$$$.

Onkyo TX-NR7100 $549

To improve results of Dirac Live on this: confirm best placements for speakers including sub.
The best way the mic helps is if you get REW & miniDSP and calibrate the sub to your environment.
Improve room environment.
You then run Dirac Live on the on line version and make adjustments as needed.

One other advantage with the new Denon/Marantz is directional setting option with subs.
It's the same theory behind DLBC.
That's another option, they offer the option for DLBC.

The new A1 script can be a gamble changer!
You don't have to get a new model, works as long as you have access to the Editor App!

I may be wrong, but on the onkyo 7100 dirac is definitely seeing the sub woofer channel and applying corrections like the rest of the speakers. I run dirac through the windows app and set the sub corrections from 10hz-150hz. I'm curious if rew and a mini dsp is even needed unless you are running 2 subs. I'm really new to all this but it's pretty cool stuff.

I'm confused…. I use the link and the deal comes up. But if I search the Adorama site for Pioneer receivers, the deal does not show. Why?

I have a Denon 3500h decided to upgrade to the NR7100. I know it's a marginal upgrade but I wanted to be able to run all the gaming consoles through the AVR and get 4k@ 120hz. I really don't think I needed the preouts since I don't have the room and Dirac, upgraded Bluetooth is a plus.

Yes Dirac Live will see your sub and calculate it into the mix based on your settings of it.
It will also let you make manual adjustments as you pointed out.

What Dirac Live doesn't do is make any bass adjustments with their own filters, DLBC gives you those calculations.

This is directly from Dirac's users manual which is universal. It explains what each of their three RC's offer/do(page 32).

"Dirac Live: The filter design page is presented without Bass Control features and filters are calculated without any form of bass management.

Bass Management: Dirac Live filters are designed such that each subwoofer in the arrangement contributes equally to matching the drawn target curve. A system with 1 subwoofer will adjust this subwoofer so that it matches the curve, while a system with 2 or more subwoofers will scale the volume (or gain) of each subwoofer so that they collectively add up to provide the drawn response. However, it will not consider any destructive interference between the speakers.

Bass Control: Dirac Live filters harmonize the subwoofers and non-subwoofer speakers in the lower frequencies using tailor-made phase filters, delays, and gains." https://www.dirac.com/wp-content/...pdf#page24

That video I posted explains this pretty well and even shows what it looks like.
