waiting for the 505 deal to come back.
most that have atmos will take advantage of it, so i'd say 99% of 4k movies, if you have 9.2 speaker setup

A for Adorama, A for Pioneer support, F for Pioneer product quality. Bought this receiver, worked great for a week then began showing error codes. Called Adorama, was directed to call Pioneer Support, who said an internal component had failed and to return to seller. Returned, Adorama sent a replacement receiver, which would not connect to my projector. Tried new cable, the a different tv, no luck. Same drill, Pioneer support had me go through several resets, etc. and then said send it back to seller. Returned to Adorama and got a refund. Both Adorama and Pioneer support were very helpful, the problem was Pioneer product quality. Adorama provided shipping labels and promptly returned my full amount paid. My experience may not be representative of others experience, but the new Pioneer products are no longer on my shopping list.

So, I am guessing this is a gamble...hence the heavy discounts on this model.

Glad I held off and read these reviews. Going to switch focus and look at the Onkyo RZ50 although more expensive it seems like it dosent have all the issues this device has and is a better overall investment

So you are not familiar w/the RZ50 "stealth" protection mode scandal?

This goes for the clone Pioneer 505 as well:

Been going between this and the Onkyo 7100 that's been on sale for $550 recently, replacing a Denon x2200 that's perfectly fine other than lacking eARC and support for VRR.
If you game on PC and are trying to work around your lack of eARC (if using the TV as a hub) and lack of VRR (if using the AVR as a hub), you could run your GPU into your TV and your iGPU (or other GPU) into your AVR, then duplicate your "two" displays in Windows. I do this with my X1700H and my 2021 TCL TV even though I have VRR And eARC available, respectively, to get around some audio "spitting" issues I have on my PC, and because my TV doesn't pass DTS through. Obviously, this is not an option for console gamers - unless maybe they use an HDMI splitter or something.
