Got this last year for the same price with 10% cashback as well. Great soundbar, compared to the Q990D this does not have hdmi 2.1 support, dual rear stereo mode (if you have vizio soundbars you should know how this works) and another make to make voices louder in media. Besides that the specifications and dimensions of the soundbar, subwoofer are exactly the same.

If you have a Samsung TV from the past 2-3 years the soundbar will work along with the TV speakers to give you even more immersion.

Cons would be the inability to get full control over each channel, you cannot fully mute the center channel for example, atmos effects are quite weak even if you the largest satellite speaker stand, putting your streaming stick straight into the soundbar for direct audio pass through will give you a black screen for a second or two before playing.

If you already have Q700B paired with rear speakers (swa-9500s), don't bother upgrading. I returned mine and kept q700b. Almost no difference. I got swa-9500s from BB for $100 local pickup deal a while back.

You're right that q990c is louder and better suited for larger rooms. But in terms of sound clarity, dolby atmos or dts:x, I compared both, didn't see much difference. If you crank up both woofer and built-in soundbar bass and rear speakers all they way up (I recommend 5) from the SmarThings app (samsung app to control and configure audio settings), you can achieve almost the same results.

this soundbar is good for movie, but the bass is very weak if listening to music. So depends on how you are going to use it.

Doesn't the Q800 and Q990 have much better deep rumble bass than the Q700?

In my experience it might be true, but sub positioning is way more vital than just pure power or size. I'm just saying that once you really tinker with them, spend time with them, the 700 is closer to the 800 than the 800 is to the 900.

This is my opinion and an experience. And i'm not taking away from the validity of the other poster.

I have a "Samsung Money" discount account. Access is granted when you sign up for their SoFi Money account and deposit $100 (however, I did this years ago). You can see if it's still available. I just order today witch checkout of $762 using the Samsung Money account. To my knowledge, it's the same as the EPP (employer discount) account.

I was able to get this deal through my work discount program, in this case Working Advantage. Many workplaces offer sites like this that link to other stores and give you a generally small discount. In this case, the search page shows $700, the item page shows $1600 or something, then the cart shows $700.

I have the Q930C version of this setup in a 2-story room. I didn't expect to hear much Atmos sound because of the two-story room and I was right. But that said, the dialog is clearer than ever before, the sub hits hard enough, and the rears when turned up are good enough as well. One thing I didn't expect was the extra height added to the sound. So even though I don't notice Atmos sound that much the extra height does help. Fwiw, I came from an onkyo nr626 + klipsch 5.1 setup, and the sammy sounds better.

The q990c from the OP is slightly better than mine in every way on paper, but I would imagine the listening experience to be very similar in a two-story room.

I dont need rears, but the q900c (q900c=q990c w/o rears) is sold out. May just hop on this and sell the rears at this point...

I have this system along with an Onkyo RZ-50 11.1.4 Klipsch speaker system. I'm no audiophile, more an audio enthusiast, and this 990C has made me regret spending all that money and time on a full audio system.

This Q990C is my recommended setup to friends and family now to save them (and sometimes me) the hassle of an AVR setup. It's true it's better at movies than music as my Klipsch system is definitely more musical than the Q990C but not night and day. I would easily recommend this system at $1K, at $700 it's a no brainer for those who are in need of a quality Home Theater System without all the hassle of wires and the difficult setup that goes with it. However, if you're a gamer, you may want to wait on the 990D to go on discount closer to Black Friday to get the 2.1 HDMI ports on that one which this one doesn't have. I, and most of the family and friends I setup systems for, are not gamers.
