I made the right choice.
....for another fight with the wifey!
The manner in which they handled that problem turned me forever against Onkyo (and FYI, I gave them MANY chances at retaining me as a loyal customer).
They couldn't be bothered to do the right thing. So... they are 'permanently banned' in my house & amongst my small circle of close friends.
BTW, I hope OP doesn't take my comment as me crapping on this thread... I'm just stating my own personal experience/facts & also my associated opinions surrounding those facts.
I don't wish any grief upon Onkyo or their employees. I truly hope that Onkyo has since changed their company culture on how they treat their loyal customers, especially when their is a KNOWN systemic problem affecting MANY of their (often premium-priced) products.
And one last thing... notice I just described their products as 'premium priced'.
This 'prepaid premium' is what ultimately made my decision to basically 'forever ban them' a lot easier.
You often pay a premium for a product not only because of the real (or perceived) quality... but also for the steps the company takes to 'make things better', regardless of the cost (w/in reason, obviously).
Sorry for the long post. And... good luck with your Onkyo product! : )

I just can't pull the trigger on the RZ50 because I've heard it can't properly tune 2 subs and also has a global crossover... and I don't want to buy extra equipment just to tune my subs. Patiently waiting for a deal on the Denon that isn't a refurb.
I have a good history with denon so leaning towards 3800/4800 series. However I'm also curious about Dirac, which the onkyo has
I kinda also want to wait until next gen denon are released to see if they will include Dirac and also allow full 48Gbps hdmi bandwidth specs as I want to keep the avr for years if i can
There are many claims that there is no issue w/low impedance speakers. I wonder how many of these owners are volunteering that their system is powered externally?

Don't forget that the major reasons why the RZ50 retails very similar to the 3800 is because of the following:
1) Dirac Full bandwidth license included - I'm sure this cost Onkyo about $150-$250 per unit produced. In other words, it would have retailed for cheaper w/o Dirac!
2) No SHARC chip included means no Dirac Bass Management or Bass Control = less cost
3) Based on the ASR review, there is reason to believe the amp is not as powerful as advertised. Only way to know is to remove the software protection and let it fly on 4-6 ohm outputs!

Unlike this, the cost is rolled into the price.
Denon offers both Dirac Live and Dirac Live Bass Control, this you only get DL.
Denon just came out with the 6800, very unlikely they will put out anything else this year.
Very unlikely Denon will include DL into their products in the future.
For one Audyssey is a competitor, 2nd it's very comparable RC so there is no reason to make people pay for two very good comparable RCs.
If Dirac Live is a top priority, you can just get this, it's a good price for it.
If good history is a top priority also and if DL is as great as people say, $350($240 in Dec) would seem to be a bargain to get both.
Not to mention the features you give up going with this especially if you find they are a benefit.
At full price it was the best AVR overall in terms of features, quality, etc.
At this price it's not even a think twice situation.
The only comprimise I made was this does not have Auro 3D and I really wanted to try that out.
Not much content for it, and its rare to see but I still wanted to try it.
At the time of release for this model NO other model had all the features of this and Auro3D so it was not really a compromise just a consession.

I have driven this with 6ohm speakers to ear bleeding levels and not once has it ever had an issue.

@iconian - it's 120 W/Ch @8 ohms, not 20

120 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hzā20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 channels driven, FTC)

FWIW, the ASR review did confirm that this was not only achieved but the RZ50 exceeded the advertised power in the 2CH benchtest at 136 W/Ch!
For reference, my nearly 20 year old Rotel RSX-1067 gave an honest 100W/Ch across 7 channels! That thing was a beast for its day!

I ask because I'm sure people have 5+ channel amps with older processors that could use an upgrade (myself included)
