Picked this up after setting a camel camel camel alert. It was $280 recently but I saw the price fluctuating and set an alert for $200. Has great reviews. Arrives tomorrow

I'm not a gamer, but I'm thinking about purchasing this for my son. He mostly plays World of Warcraft and some first person shooters. He built a desktop PC about a year or so ago, so I know that he has a decent graphics card.

Is this a decent monitor for this use case? Thank you in advance.

This is an office work type monitor. Not optimized for gaming.

I use it for everything, including gaming. It works for gaming, I mean - it is a monitor after all.
It's not meant for anything about 60 FPS though, as it is a 60 Hz monitor.
If your son plays fast, twitchy FPS like Quake, Doom, or any e-sports FPS like Fortnite or Apex Legends, he's going to be locked at 60 FPS with this monitor. A lot of gamers (but not everyone) wants higher refresh rates than 60 in those types of games. Me - I could care less, really. I went from 1440P high refresh rate -> this monitor and I'm very happy with it. (I'm actually using 2 of them for productivity, as I also WFH.)

It's not a gaming monitor, no, but it is a fantastic monitor.

Keep in mind that it is also a 4K monitor, so depending on his PC specs he may get lower framerates anyway due to the horsepower required to make the monitor really shine. I run a 4070 Ti Super in my system and it does great at 4K.

If he mostly games, go for a little lower resolution (QHD) but higher refresh (144hz) or above.
