Yesterday I ordered the 5800xt. It was set to arrive on Sat. Was going to undervolt it to lower the watt and temp. As I've never done it before, I'm hesitant and worry about the process and risk to the system. Saw this deal and immediately canceled my order. Now the 5700x will arrive tomorrow! Don't care about the prism cooler as I rather use my current air cooler. It's cooler and less noisy. Thanks OP!

From online searches, looks like the 5800XT is a solid 10% faster but the power usage really is 30-50% more minimum when active. 5700X seems best if fan can be reused.

Worth upgrading from a 5600x?
I have a 5600x from 2022 and deciding not to. Upgrading my gpu gave me the performance in the games that I play at 1440p. For me, it makes more sense to upgrade to AM5 in a year or two.

so wait would you be undervolting it with AMD software? Doesn't that have to be set up every time you restart your computer, or is there a motherboard way to do it permanently?
You can download AMD Ryzen Master. If you wish to underplot, the software is pretty straight forward and allows you to find out how much to undervolt by. You do this process because each cpu is a little different and depends on the batch it comes from. Once you settle on an undervolt setting, your PC is going to stick with it each time it turns on. Watch some YouTube videos, there are plenty of tutorials. You can also undervolt from the BIOS; however, it's a manual process that takes time in repeated testing for temp and stability.

Thanks for the info, super helpful, kind of torn on which direction to go for... I have a 3700x which is still doing ok, but recently upgraded my GPU to a 9070xt and wanted to max out AM4 without going crazy on the TDP.

Hmm, have been debating an upgrade to my 2600x, and the 5800XT is only 10 watts more, and I have no issues cooling the 2600x.
But then I would need to upgrade my old GTX 1060 6 gig, and IMO GPU prices are still stupid crazy ($200-300 for a used 6600xt/6700xt/3060(Ti)), and would probably need a new PSU as well for another $100 or so. .
So my $130 upgrade will cost me over $500.
Don't use it often enough, and for my needs, does what I need now, so guess I will pass.

yea, your upgrade makes sense. At $130, I'd probably get the 5800XT since it comes with a cooler, but either one works.

Not really much price different since good AM4 boards are getting hard to find now and AM5/DDR5 have come down.

No but the 5800xt is the same price and that's worth it.

How do you set power usage targets to lower the power consumption? So that it runs at 65 tdp instead of 105 all the time.

Wish you asked this question earlier Frown . Undervolting will almost never break a CPU because less voltage won't risk damage to a CPU. Its only the other way when you're overclocking (and therefore voltage increase) where you could risk killing a CPU.

Eh, I'd hesitate to call the process "pretty straight forward" unless you're already reasonably tech-savvy. Based on my experience, Ryzen Master will get you close, but you may have to keep an eye out for bluescreens if a particular core was pushed a little too far, and you'll have to check the Windows system logs to see which core bombed out, then back off the undervolt a bit on that one. Not exactly rocket science, but can still be a pretty intimidating process for the average person.
