If you need one of these, this is a buy now, think later kind of deal. Best receiver for the money for a 5.2.4 maxed out setup IMO.

i see the onkyo is a 2024 model while the yamaha goes back to 2020. i also read the yamaha is neutral sounding and better musically.

Bigger Power Supply 750 W onkyo vs 360 W yamaha
Higher Power Output (6 Ω, 1 kHz, 1 channel driven, JEITA) 220 W (10% THD) vs 160 W (10% THD)
Newer Bluetooth Version 5․1 vs 4․2

Others I would point out:
Better room correction(Dirac Live vs YPAO), full pre outs, independent sub outs, access to Dirac subwoofer/bass correction (DLBC).

It's sold by Electronics Expo, not Best Buy.

I currently have a Yamaha TSR-700 with Klipsch RP-8000f towers, 504c, and 2 monolith subs. Would i notice i big audible difference upgrading to the RZ30? Enough to sell the TSR and upgrade for this price? TIA

You would not. The only reason to upgrade would be to modernize and also get Dirac room correction.

Will it work with 7.2 system?
Absolutely. You can always use fewer channels than what any receiver supports. If you only have 7 speakers though you could get a 7 channel receiver for closer to $400-500. No reason to pay for extra channels that you'll never use.

Nada. The receiver makes little to zero audible difference compared to actual speakers/sub. Is there anything that you're dissatisfied about in your current system? Which model Monolith subs do you have?

I have 1x monoloth 15 an 1x monolith 10 but I have the 10 unhooked. I love my speakers but I'm always looking for ways to improve clarity. I feel the bass of the monolith isn't as tight or punchy as I want. I have it cranked 80%. Amps usually make a big difference in output and quality which is why I asked.

If you want to maximize your subs' performance, especially since you have two which can be tricky to calibrate just right, it might be worth your while to undergo the (considerable) learning curve of using an Umik-1 and miniDSP 2x4 with the free REW software. Usually takes most folks around 10-20 hours to do it, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a brand new receiver and will make a more audible difference imo.

Thanks for the suggestion, yes currently reading up on miniDSP myself.

I would add:
For clarity I would suggest start by checking proper placement of all speakers and addressing room environment.
That will make the biggest impact.

With subwoofer/bass integration you have a bit of a bigger challenge.
Two different subs is not ideal, the 15 will be limited to the 10s performance, tight or accurate punch is not the 15s strong suit & Yamahas has a known low sub output signal.

If you do plan on trying to do it manually I would suggest looking into MSO software, it's free also.
