Community Reviews

This restored 14.2 inch MacBook Pro stands out for its bright 120 hertz display, active cooling, and pro level ports, including Thunderbolt, HDMI, and SDXC. The 16 gigabytes of memory and 512 gigabyte SSD make it feel well equipped for everyday work, and the M1 Pro chip still holds up well for sustained performance and heavier tasks. The main concerns are age, battery uncertainty on a third party refurb, and shorter remaining macOS support than newer M4 Air options. It looks strongest for buyers who value the screen, ports, and long running performance over the newest chip.

This is a better computer than the Neo for sure. Double the RAM is the big spec difference, but also double the storage, much better screen (120Hz, higher res, color accuracy), backlit keyboard, more I/O.

If you can add a cheap warranty, I'd go with this. The only downside would be potentially less battery health. My 4-year-old M1 Pro MBP is at 85% I think.
Yes, this is better in almost every way compared to the Neo. The Neo's only saving grace here is higher single threaded performance which could make it snappier in some casual computing scenarios.

Aside from all the considerations I posted comparing this to the M4 Air, the Neo doesn't have any thunderbolt ports at all (has only a single USB 2 port and a single USB 3 port), does not have a backlit keyboard (like you pointed out), has drastically lower multicore and GPU performance, doesn't support MagSafe charging, has very poor external monitor support, worse speakers, half the RAM ...

I don't think it's worth it. You can get an open box, M4 MacBook Air for a little more way faster more modern. In every way M1p is it just too old now
Where can I get this?

If you're using it outdoors, then more reason why m4 air is superior for battery by a mile! Folks.. this is six years old already from date if manufacturing!

COVID has warped time for many, but let that sink it.. would you have purchased a used computer from 2010 in 2016? Unless it was a garage sale, of course not.

Yes, processing has more longevity nowadays, but certain facts can't escape age. Unless you need this screen and happy with the horsepower, and willing to install new battery, I don't see this as a good deal for most. If you were willing to do all that work /cost for new battery, then you can do better used mb pro m3 etc.
Just want to say the MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip was release on October 26, 2021.
Today March 8, 2026. So technically not really 6 year old. It's not even 4.5 year old if you want to count the exact number of months and days.

If specs were important then you wouldn't be looking at a 6 year old laptop lol
If specs were important then you wouldn't be looking at a laptop with a phone chip, 8GB of forever RAM, and a USB 2.0 port.
The thing is, my MBP 16 with M1 Pro feels as fast today as it did the day it came out and surely you remember how revolutionary the leap in performance and efficiency was. Sometimes, things just age well, but in my opinion, an 8GB laptop with a phone chip isn't going to do as well 5 years from now.

Even better, the M2 Pro was not released until January 24, 2023, so the M1 Pro was "current" in January 2023. It's roughly 3 years and 2 months since then. That's not old for a MacBook.

That said, I'm not sure I would buy a "restored" from an unknown seller on Walmart.

Cheapest MBA M4 13" and NEW I could find this year was $800. That's $200 more. There was, once, a deal at the military exchange which is not an option for most.

M1 Pro came out in 2021, which is almost 5 years ago. From Apple's past practices, macbooks stop getting macos updates after 5-7 years. Also, if that's the original battery.... oof have fun with that bud

Original battery @ 97% health bud.

Like I said above, the MBP M1 Pro was current until Jan 2023. So anyone who bought one in Jan 2023 has a 3 year old MacBook. Apple surely supports it x-number of years AFTER it is no longer current or when they stopped selling it, not when they started selling it. I have lots more time for my M1 Pro.

This is a restored macbook, so the battery could be from 2021. Just because you have 97% (seems like you don't use it much lol) doesn't mean every battery in refurbished units will have that from a random seller on walmart lmao. Personally i'd take a laptop with a 100% battery health and more years before apple says it's obsolete Wink

Well, I never said every laptop would be pristine with 100% battery. I never said any would. I said mine was in good shape, and I corrected your assertion that all M1 MacBooks were almost dead and buried and had spent batteries using mine as an example of one that is still very healthy. As I also wrote above, I probably wouldn't buy from a random seller on Walmart. Can we be done now?

Well you did say your m1 pro was at 97% using anecdotal evidence to spread misinformation about this restored m1 pro macbook, i'm glad you conceded to that. Also, it doesn't change the fact that Apple stops supporting macs after 5-7 years and the M1 Pro has been discontinued since January 2023 which is over 3 years ago, so it has 2-4 years max of major updates left.

Like I said, a 100% battery health and more than 5-7 years of support for the same price, it's a no brainer lol

I'm getting dizzy with you spinning everything I say to fit your agenda. My MacBook battery state was a response to you saying M1 MacBook batteries are trash by now. If you inferred I said that all used MacBooks have healthy batteries because mine is healthy, that's on you, not me. I never said that.

If you bought a Neo, I hope you enjoy it. With the meager specs, I hope it's still useful in 7 years...somehow I think most will be in the landfill or on ebay by then.

the Air is faster in day‑to‑day CPU tasks and much more efficient, while the M1 Pro machine still wins on sustained performance, ports, screen, and pro‑workload flexibility.
